Matthew Ponseti Landscaping

Just terrible. Honestly. I hired them as our umpteenth failed gardener in New Orleans, which is amazing, but bad as the pictures are, they were the best of the eight, if that gives you any indication of the quality of gardeners available here. I wanted them to do maintenance, but it was clear, like it is with so many in this city, he wasn't interested in doing anything without landscape design, and I literally hated everything from the Japanese maples to the badly installed magnolias. I miss my old garden. But what's worse is, my husband asked them not to dig up our climbing traviata red roses, and they did anyway. So he asked them to replace them TWO YEARS AGO, and he still hasn't done it. I keep giving these people more chances to improve, and I've sent pictures and messages in hopes that they'd “get the hint,” but they just keep coasting and, with a freeze some weeks back, they never even bothered to clean that up, and I had asked them to make the plants behind the pool more even across the wall and not so overgrown, and they couldn't even figure that out. After a month at our other house up north, I came back to the pictures, and that was just the final straw. I don't know what I was paying a $250 monthly maintenance charge for because every time they came, the garden just looked worse and worse. more

As part of an effort to improve water drainage on a small property (as part of the Front Yard Initiative in New Orleans), we requested several bids from landscape contractors. We were very clear about trying to keep the project simple, possibly removing excess concrete and replacing with a few water-friendly plants and some gravel. We consulted with several contractors, most of whom were helpful and honest about what we could accomplish within our budget. Matthew Ponsetti agreed to look at the property and come up with a plan. He indicated he charged a fee for this consultation, which would be applied to the project. After a site visit, he submitted a plan that was way over our stated budget, and complete overkill for the project. It did not fit our needs, nor was it appropriate for the neighborhood. After a request to modify the design, he simply eliminated a few plants, with a minimal price adjustment. We figured he really didn't want the job, and was accustomed to much more sophisticated design work than our project would afford him. But that didn't prevent him from billing us $275 for a design we didn't ask for, and that did not fit our needs or budget. Other contractors were more helpful and honest about how we could approach our project. In sum, I only recommend contacting him if you have a large budget and a need for an elaborate design, and don't mind paying a fee for a design that may be useless. I gave him two stars because he actually did come to the property for a site visit, and I realize his time is worth something. I cannot comment on the quality of his work. more

Don't use the guy. He does not stand by his work. Most of the plants he installed died. He does not return phone calls more

As a home builder, I have dealt with several landscapers and paving stone contractors. With other landscapers I have always found the annoyance of unexpected "Extras" and that the person quoting or designing the job isn`t the person actually doing the job, which can lead to interpretation of the work, different from my own. With Matthew Ponseti Landscaping doing the actual work and also the landscape design. Their work is creative and reasonably priced. With his paving stones, he compacts the area sufficiently and concretes the edges. Other firms use plastic edging and lightly compact the ground, which has lead to repairs after a year or so. Simple things such as planting bed heights and shapes can make or break the enjoyment of the garden, on my own home I am very satisfied every time I look out my windows and see Matthew Ponseti Landscaping`s work. more

This was the most professional project that I have ever had done. It was much more than I had expected, completed in a day, at the end of the day I was left with a beautiful water garden, landscaped with beautiful plants, lights and the best Class A equipment by Aquascape. When the crew left all I had to do was enjoy along with my fish you new pond, and did we. I would give this a 10+. I hope some day to add a larger pond and Prestige would be my only installer I would call. more

I’m an engineer and work out of my house so I was there every step of the way. They were professional and pleasant from the initial contact all the way through the job. After they were done I told them to give me more cards and I would get them more business. All my neighbors said "If you recommend them we don’t have to call any references because we know how picky you are”. They did a great job on our patio project and even built us a wonderful Croquet court. more

I interviewed a number of contractors. When I called Matthew Ponseti Landscaping’s references I had to ask are they really that nice? It was not what I was used to. The answer was always YES. While they were working my husband commented on how professional they were with their safety cones and clean workplace. I am very happy with my new driveway. more
