Had a valid contact lens prescription. Went to buy a box of lenses (6 per box) and they wouldn't sell me a box because my prescription is up in 28 days. They offered to sell me one pair at nearly twice the price per pair (they said the extra charge is a dispensing fee). They said that they don't want to sell a 6 month supply with only 28 days left on the valid prescription. WTF? I guess using their philosophy if one gets a refill on a prescription medication within the valid period, they would not be "permitted" to take the medication after the prescription expiration date. Or if a person purchased a pair of eyeglasses the day before the prescription expired they would not be permitted to wear them after the prescription expiration? You want to hear the best part? They wouldn't approve me purchasing them from online vendors either. Two online vendors contacted them for confirmation of the valid prescription and Massengales denied it saying the 6 month quantity would go beyond the prescription expiration date. What business it is of theirs if I buy 500 pairs of contact lenses as long as it is within the one year period i.e. with a valid prescription. I don't recall seeing anywhere on their prescription that I would be prohibited from buying contact lenses PRIOR to the expiration date of the prescription itself or limited to a specific quantity.
So, are they going to block customers from buying a 6 month supply of contacts within 5 months of the prescription expiration date? 4 months? 3 months? What is the magic cutoff date????
To Massengale Eye Care, obviously a 1 year prescription doesn't mean it's valid for 1 year. This little cutoff game is a ruse to get you back in for another eye exam prior to the annual date. And, they act like they're doing you a favor selling you 1 pair at twice the price adding a "dispensing" fee.
No problem......................I simply took my VALID written prescription and went to another optometrist and after he saw that the prescription was, in fact, valid he simply asked me one question: How many boxes would you like?
Nice optometrists.................................lousy customer service. There are way too many other optical options in OKC to have to put up with their tactics.
