MIT has the reputation having smart students, yet perhaps saddled with the stereotype that they are too "nerdy" or "geeky". The truth is, while more than 50% of the undergrad student population is the valedictorian or salutatorian of their graduating high school classes, just about ALL of the students are involved with a lot of other extracurricular activities. You'll find the football captain as well as debate team captains. The best part of going to a school like MIT is the diverse sports team they offer. They rank either #1 or #2 in the nation in the number of varsity teams they offer. Not only do they offer the sports, but quite often they are quite good. Case in point, just this past year, MIT's pistol team won the nationals, beating out US Naval Academy (and all the other military and civilian schools). If you have interests other than purely academic, MIT is definitely a fun (and fine) place for a college education.
