Not Happy 6/23/2011

I have supported Town Hall for over 10 years now and my children have been through almost every program offered. I find them very disorganized especially in recent years. The staff is unprofessional, and rude. It takes forever for them to return a phone call and they will never go out of their way to accomodate you. I have seen them embarass parents/guardians over money in front of other parents. They staff talks about mothers and fathers behind their backs, as if they are better than other people. I had one toddler ""teacher"" call my child, ""stand-offish"". Shy, quitet, yes, but stand-offish implies that the child has intent. As a parent, you do not wish for your child to be overfriendly with every ADULT they meet anyway and this was not an insructor that she had on a daily basis in recent years. The programs offer nothing more than a few hours to socialize with other children and parents. There is no real teaching going on. I AGREE with the above review, that certain children are favored and treated differently. It depends on whether their personality suits that of the instructor. I have witnessed children being yelled at because patience has worn thin. Years ago, I always supported and promoted Town Hall, but now I would not recommend them at all. more

Questionable Services 8/13/2010

Maspeth Town Hall has a known reputation but I'm sorry to say this reputation is false and made up to cover how things truly work. As an employee, if you are not on the inside there or spend a lot of money to help them out they will drop you when it suits them. As a parent I would be worried about what goes on when I am not around. Not all children are treated equally or cared for equally. Their afterschool sites are often lacking in supplies and resources and maintain rules that truly do not help better children's education. And even thought the program is free as a parent you better make sure you can afford to take full part in their fundraisers or they will badger you and talk poorly about you behind your back.Their summer camp is so so. They do repetitive activities and do not always make the wisest choices when it comes to scheduling and planning trips and activities. Their staff is also questionable. Not all staff hired prove to be good roles models for the children. Other staff are more interested in each other than their jobs and overlook their purpose of being there to take care of the children. Many of those who run the company have proven to be fake and only act like they truly care about the children and staff. There are many other good afterschool and summer programs and I would seriously take a look at those options before enrolling in programing at Maspeth Town Hall. more
