I love Mary's. The other tack stores don't have enough merchandise to compete with them. The managers are all nice people who try to be as helpful as possible.

Editorial review from Citysearch 8/20/2014

I've spent thousands of dollars in this store, including over $2,000 for a new Bates saddle. 17 mos later the saddle literally fell apart because one of the bolts connecting the side to the tree snapped in half. Mary's could not be any less accommodating. Took a full day for the Sales Manager, Juls, to call me back. She said the saddle had a one year warranty. Wrong- the Bates website says two years on parts and 10 years on the tree. I brought the saddle into the store to speak with Jules and show her the broken bolt. They asked if I'd made an appointment!! After waiting 15 minutes she finally came to speak with me and said the saddle was defective and had to be sent to Bates and I'd be without my only saddle for a month. Despite having dozens of saddles for sale (new and used), Juls said she could not make any arrangements for me to use a saddle during this period. They basically said they were doing me a favor sending it to Bates and washed their hands. UNBELIEVABLE. Then she said I should not expect more because these are the ""small saddle companies of the world."" Yea-- real small. Bates advertises that they ""have distributors and retail stockists in five continents."" STAY AWAY FROM MARY'S. Worst customer service I've ever experienced anywhere. more

Happy Customer 11/9/2010

I have been purchasing equine products from Mary's for many, many years. I live out of state and when I'm visiting the area a trip to Mary's is as important as eating at Milton's!\r All of my online orders have arrived in a timely manner and in great condition. I've only had one return, and that was handled professionally and promptly. Mary's communication is wonderful. They never fail to inform me if an item is backordered and if I still want the item.\r In short, our entire family loves Mary's. more

Service has dimished ....... 9/7/2009

Sadly, I believe that the quality of service at Mary's has made a steady decline over the last several years. I own four horses, my daughter competes so believe me, I KNOW! With the elimination of the equine departments at the various PetSmarts in town, maybe business is so good for them that it's no longer important to ensure quality customer service. And lets face it, when your go to a Horse Show at Horse Park ... they've got you right where they want you in the event of an emergency horse related purchase and they nail it to you in terms of price (shavings for example .. must be the most expensive shavings in Southern California!) . I've also experienced "issues" with my credit card. I was called a week after a purchase and asked to provide my card number to the gal over the phone ... someone had made a mistake at the time of purchase. Hmmmm. I've even experienced one of the cashier's (appeared to be about 19 years of age) rudely arguing with the lady that works upstairs when she approached the girl to tell her the details of my purchase (the cashier didn't want to be bothered and must NOT have realized that I was the purchasing customer ...) ... bottom line .... poor poor poor customer service! I order online from Dover and Dressage Extensions or drive up to San Marcos anytime that I can to avoid these people. I will drive out of my way to purchase feed because I hate the thought of giving this place any more business then I absolutely have to. Saddles?? Please!! They are SO beat up, it's pathetic. Their prices are super high compared to online alternatives. Believe me, shop around and you will come to the same conclusion ... come to think of it, that applies to almost everything in their store. Who's managing this operation these days??? What has happened to what USED to be a wonderful store? Pros: Good San Diego Location Cons: Customer Service and Product Quality are lacking! more

Mary's Tack 10/5/2008

A great tack store, with a good selection, and helpful friendly staff. They even have a small, but good selection of used saddles. They even have a good selection of dog items. more

Only one Mary's 9/24/2008

Mary's tack is an institution in SanDiego if you are a horse owner. They have everything you could possible want or need for your and your horse. On the expensive side though. more

The best tack shop on the west coast 8/22/2008

When I lived in San Diego I absolutely lived at Mary's. All things horses are at this shop, no matter what your venue is. And all her help are equestrians themselves. Half the very large store is devoted to horses downstairs and all of the upstairs are horsey things too. Half the bottom is devoted to cats and dogs and other pets and farm animals. Be sure to look at the bulletin board outside - I've made a few "finds" there. more

Customer service is great 5/9/2008

Don't know what these other reviewers are talking about - maybe they work for the competition. Mary's is a great store with fun people and big selection. The other day I saw one of the managers out in the parking lot helping an older gentleman with how to put his saddle into his new saddle carrier. The feed guys are really outstanding - they've even called me ahead of time when the rain is coming to make sure I'm stocked on shavings. Love this store! Pros: Good products, friendly staff Cons: Can't think of any more

Hay is for Horses 2/15/2008

This shop has been around forever and is known all across California among riders. This shop has the lastest and some of the best items for horses; kids and adults of all ages will love it. more

Terrible customer service 2/2/2008

I received an order that had been damaged, and it took weeks of arguing with assorted managers up the chain of command to finally get my money back. Bottom line: don't order anything from these guys. They don't stand behind their products, and if your order arrives damaged, good luck getting them to admit fault. Pros: none Cons: managers more

worst retail anywhere 1/28/2008

just wondering if you gave me your credit card and asked me to send you some pants $300 value, and i sent it to the wrong address and you waited a whole month for me to fix it and i still couldnt .. would you give me your credit card again??? Pros: the deals Cons: the managers more

nice idea 6/26/2006

This is one of few places that allows you to order fruit with your floral arrangements. They have great items to choose from and are reasonably priced. The service is excellent as well. Depending on the season, you can order strawberries with chocolate, or just an arrangement. I would recommend this place to anyone with gift needs. more

Stop here on your way to the beach... 6/18/2005

...to get some strawberries! They are delicious. They can be a little overpriced when out of season, but that's to be expected. They also sell a nice selection of roses. more
