Mary Coyle Ice Cream

Bad service and unfriendly attitudes in an old fashioned ice cream shop!? I thought these people were going to make me and my kids cry. No sprinkles!? No sugar cones!? And, they weren't nice either!? Come on. I've never seen an ice cream shop where so many of the people working there were so uncaring and rude. Then, we apparently, made the worst mistake ever -- we ordered two scoops of ice cream with the chocolate sauce on the side! My husband and I both tried reasoning with the man taking orders. He wouldn't give in. He didn't care that my family doesn't like the sauce on top. Flat-out refused, "We don't do that here", he snapped. Me: "We are not asking for extra-- just please, not on top because it makes the ice cream melt." I wasn't sure if we were on candid camera when he said he was the OWNER and he refused to put chocolate ice cream sauce on the side!? Even if it meant we would take our whole family somewhere else to eat ice cream instead! Wow. This family business must be rolling in the dough (or $auce :) because they do not give two-cents about what their customers want. They only want your money if you eat YOUR ice cream the way THEY want you to. This place is old fashioned alright --in the crotchety ways --not in the nice ways that matter. The people working at Mary Coyle's may have inherited the business --but they need to go find jobs doing something else they enjoy. They clearly hate working in what should be a fun, happy and friendly business. It's ICE CREAM people --not a strict school cafeteria! more

I love Mary Coyle's!! I grew up eating there as a child, and the place has not changed, the ambience and food are pretty much exactly the same. The food is nnot stellar, but it is not the main attraction anyway. Try the banana boat sundaes, they are large and yummy. The only complaint I have is that they no longer have whipped cream for some odd reason. more

I haven't lived in the Akron area very long, but when I moved here, this was the one place that was recommended over and over. Not only is this eatery a trip down memory lane for a lot of people (it's been around FOREVER), but it's also a business that still treats the customer special. The ice cream is awesome. The servings are huge and they are generous with the toppings as well. My favorite thing on the menu is definitely their spaghetti. It tastes homemade and sure beats out all those chain Italian restaurants. more

Mary Coyle Ice Cream has been around longer than I have. I wonder why? Maybe it is because their ice cream is OUT OF THIS WORLD! I remember as a child going there after Sunday Evening Service to get some Ice cream with friends. Their Banana Splits are huge. But I have to say that their Tin Roof Sundays are just about the best Ice Cream Sunday’s period. Mary Coyle's has been giving HUGE servings even before it became fashionable. more

This has to be one of the best businesses left in the City of Akron! The Ice Cream here is simply DELICIOUS! Atmosphere is very comfortable and "homey". If you have children this little place is for you! If you are wanting more than Ice Cream then stop by their restaurant before enjoying your dessert. Once you've had your dessert enjoy their candy shop! Prices here are well worth the quality and customer service you receive. FOUR STARS for this establishment! more

Mary Coyle Ice Cream is one of the best ice cream shops in Akron--the variety is great, and the taste can't be beat. Many times when you go there it is quite crowded, but that just tells you how good it is. If you go there once, you will go back again and again--that's how good it is. This ice cream shop is kind of pricey in comparison to other ice cream shops around Akron, but the high quality makes it worth paying a little more. You won't be disappointed at all with the ice cream at Mary Coyle's. more
