go to the bottom level baby! 5/28/2006

This store is perfect for a shopoholic like me. There's levels and levels of shopping to be done at this store so make sure you come with ample time. But even more than the shopping, I love the bottom level of this store. The bottom level is house to their cafe and their chocolate shop. The chocolates here just smell so good. Just imagine with they taste like!! The cafe is nice too and has a great selection of sandwiches and entrees to choose from. It is a great place to take a break from shopping. more

Hidden Treasures 4/23/2006

I have a way of discovering things in the city that really aren't difficult to discover, but not many people know about. My favorite of these "hidden treasures," as I like to refer to them, is in the basement/food court of Marshall Field's on State Street. Amidst the many different sections of food court and billions of tables for eaters to sit, tucked neatly into the corner across from the bookstore, there is: Fruigurt. Although they made smoothies as well, I have never tried one; I am too hooked on the frozen yogurt to go for anything else. Cups come in two sizes... big and ridiculously big, or you can take the classic route and get a cone. I usually go with a ridiculously big cup of vanilla with Oreos on top... in the middle... and at the bottom. And the best part is, as generous as they are with their portions, the price is CHEAP. Only about $2.00 for the regular cup and $3 for the ridiculously large. Try it out... I guarantee you will fall in love as I did. more

Marshall Field's, We will miss you. 3/21/2006

I'm sure most Chicagoans will miss them when they officially change to Macy's in Sept. I don't know how much of the inside will change or what items the will be sold or eliminated. I am saddened to hear about this however. I have enjoyed shopping here once in a while, looking at that famous window display during the holidays and having a snack in their food court downstairs. You can learn about their history also by visiting the 7th floor. more

Soon to be Macys 3/14/2006

I really, really hope that when this Marshall Fields turns into a Macys, they keep the sale area! That area has been a favorite of mine for ages and I have found unbelievable bargains here over the years. But besides that, I am excited about the change. It is about time Chicago gets a Macys! In the meantime, enjoy this great highlight in Downtown Chicago. There's tons of great shopping to be done here, great customer service, and, of course, a wonderful restaurant right inside! more

Becoming Macys soon... 3/14/2006

From everything I've heard the change to Macys should be a very positive one (I've been talking to people who work there). They're keeping a lot of the traditions (Christmas included) and from what I know of Macys the prices should go down while the quality stays the same. I love the deli and etc on the bottom level (it's a great place to eat and talk). They also have like three Starbucks in or around the building, some great sales in the bottom and a lot of VERY helpful sales associates. more

Good Department Store 3/12/2006

Marshall Field's is a typical department store, but with roots in the Chicago culture. The architecture of the building is pretty interesting. One thing I really like about Marshall Field's is the eatery on the lower level. They have everything from salads, burgers, sushi and meatloaf. It can get pretty crowded during lunchtime on the weekdays. more

Did You Know About The Restaurant 3/9/2006

Inside this store is a restaurant called the Walnut Room, which is highly recommended. So, if at the end of stuffing your money into the store registers over hundred dollar ties then count your change for a piece of pie. As far as shopping goes, this store has everything that a department store should have and more. It is a shame that they have been bought out, so lets all say a prayer that they don't go to work on the Chicago culture of the building. To be summed up... a good place to be hang out with friends. more

Too Bad... 3/8/2006

I can't believe they are chaging this place! This is another definer for this great city. Especially during the Christmas season when they decorate this store so elaborately. Even as a kid I used to love coming here to check out the display with my folks. It is too bad that it will be replaced now. It truly is a Chicago legend. Well, get to it while you can. They have some really nice designer items at this great store. more
