Marsala Italian Restaurant has undergone some much needed restyling. There is a wonderful new entrance complete with a pergola and brick framed insets on either side of the door. What a wonderful spot for a water feature or art, but they haven’t gotten that far yet. They put in a new check-out/greeter desk which makes service much more efficient. The table and booth placements are all the same, but the ambiance and décor have been upgraded. The bar has its own entrance now from the parking lot and always has a steady stream of patrons.
The service is a mixed bag. I have found that the long-time employees offer the best service. Usually the most inexperienced wait staffs are the ones providing the borderline service. But, you don’t get to pick your wait staff.
The food is average. Being Italian, I am quite picky about my Italian food. The house dressing is a wonderful tomato based dressing. The bread, when not overcooked, is tasty. The marinara sauce has an abundance of tomato and light on the spices; a bit too light for my liking. Perfect, I’m sure, to please most everyone. Their chicken and seafood selections are nice and usually flavorful, but not always.
The overall entrée prices have gone up following their renovations. They priced themselves like Dallas, not Ennis. With that in mind, the daily specials are usually the best bargain. You get your entrée AND a salad. Be sure to check the specials board before you get to the greeter, though all wait staff can recap for you.
