Go to Costa Mesa 3/14/2010

I've attended Marrakesh before, the one in Costa Mesa. For Valentine we decided to visit the one in Studio City because it was closer. Service, attention, and food was same as Costa Mesa, (minus the tent) but I did not like the fact they write in their tip, that to me, killed the spirit. We are going to Marakesh tonight, again, but we are doing the extra drive to Costa Mesa. Pros: Good food Cons: they write in the tip of their choice more

CHEAP SERVICE FOR AN OVEREXPENSIVE PRICE! 2/15/2009

We called to reserve on Valentine's eve. A very rude hostess answered the phone and told us that on Valentine's, there would be a special menu. We asked if we'd still have the choice between this ""special"" menu and the ones we were used to (yes, we had been there before), and she replied with a dry ""yes"". Pros: I was seated promptly not to be waited on correctly Cons: All the rest! Don't go there! more

Authentic Moroccan Style!!! Had a blast! 2/4/2009

I just got back from Paris where I had eaten at an authentic Moroccan restaurant. When I got back home to Los Angeles, I was DYING to take my family. I found this place on citysearch and off we went. We had a blast. Valet parking is really easy and only costs 3.50. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with dim lighting, Arabic music, and lovely authentic decor. They will provide you with a wine list menu that offers either by the glass or bottle, but the waiter will recite the dinner menu to you, so I would check out the menu on their web site before visiting. All meals come with the soup, salad (which is served on a plate with three different yummy Moroccan tasties), and Bastille which is a famous Moroccan appetizer (chicken, milk, eggs and almonds inside a light dough and dusted with powdered sugar) and its a HUGE portion. You will then have different choices for your final dish which the waiter will describe to you. SUPER friendly staff. The seats are low and there is a belly dancer who will come wiggle at your table and ask you to dance. Did I mention the super friendly staff? They are so proud of their food, tea, and restaurant that they really take pleasure in visiting with you and ensuring your experience is A++++. Cant wait to take my friends!!! more

Beautiful Place Fun and Exotic 8/26/2008

I have been here three times and have had a great time every time! The food is very specific however. I would not be afraid to ask the waiter to explain some of the choices. IT IS FAMILY STYLE, so make sure you go with friends who are fairly easygoing and willing to eat with your hands only. Nothing less fun than having a member of your party pouting because they need a ""fork."" Also, Ladies, don't wear outfits you can't sit and move easily in. Low benches and small ""tuffets"" to sit on.Bellydancing a blast and the dancers are very friendly and encouraging. To those who complain about the surprise amount of the bill. If youdon't know the price, and have never been there, ASK FIRST!!!!!!!!!! Great time, everybody in my party would go back!!!!!!!!!!! Pros: Decor Experience Food Fun Cons: diet specific more

Good food, nice atmosphere, & a chance to learn to belly dance 5/18/2008

We just ate there yesterday, so we have some helpful advice: Pros: ambience, food Cons: lack of selection more

Really really really good 2/5/2008

Great food...really great food. The atmosphere is one-of-a-kind, they even have a pretty sweet bar and eating at this place is really an awesome experience. Pros: The food, atmosphere Cons: the price more

would be a higher rating if... 12/28/2007

I would give it a higher rating if they gave more choices on the menu. The foods great, service is fine. But it's so annoying not to be given a menu and not being able to choose a la carte. Its great if youre wanting to spend quite a bit for dinner, even if it is a lot of food. But I don't like having the choice of paying less to get less. i've wanted to go so many times and chose another restaurant because of the lack of menu choice. Pros: food, atmosphere Cons: fixed price, lack of a la carte menu more

Great food, great ambiance, but they added a service charge for four people 9/25/2007

The food was great Moroccan food. There was four of us and they gave us a lot of food for four people. It was lame that they don't give you a menu, but there's one online and we decided what we wanted before we got there. I enjoyed the food and the belly dancing was nice too. I went on a weekday so it wasn't crowded at all, but there were people there. Pros: Tasty food, ambiance, authenticity Cons: waiter told us the menu, added service charge more

Shake It But Don't Break It 9/19/2006

Very pricey. Bill was $400 for a party of five. And we are NOT big eaters or drinkers. The belly dancers shaking their stuff was fun to watch as they ask for crowd participation. There is nothing funnier than watching someone drunk, try to belly dance. more

Excellent Food & Service! 7/27/2006

This is my favorite restaurant! The food is worderfull and the service is great. Everyone I have brought to the restaurant has loved it. I've gone there with groups of two people to six and there is always more food than we can eat. I recommend going on a week night, Friday and Saturday the place is packed. I don't recommend it for children unless they have diverse tastes in food. You'll love the atmosphere, the chance to sit for hours with friends and not feel like the staff is trying to kick you out. Treat yourself to an unforgettable experience! Pros: Excellent Food, Ambience, and Service! Cons: parking, busy on the weekends. more

Not For A Large Group 2/27/2006

I went with 5 other people and we hardly got any food! For the ticket price, I expect to get more than a taste. Maybe you get more food than you can eat with a smaller group, but for us, we had to stop and get something to eat after ""getting something eat"". We had a great time, but that doesn't excuse the horrible service and the lack of food. I would have eaten more if I had gone to a tapas place and ordered one item. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Price, Amount of food, Service more

Outstanding Food, Atmosphere and Service 12/31/2005

I am completely stunned by complaints of high prices here. I paid $40 for a meal so large it could EASILY have fed three people - and believe me, I mean with generous portions! The food was great and the staff was so wonderful, it felt more like I was having dinner at a friend's house than eating out at a restaurant. Exotic decor, beautifully prepared food, terrific service topped off with a belly dancer - I'm sorry... what more could you ask for in restaurant? Pros: food, service, atmosphere more

will not go back 11/30/2005

Very expensive! Four adults and a child $280.00. Since you don't get a menu, you don't know what you are going to eat. We had one bottle of wine and one beer. We came out still hungry because what was served was not satisfying. Ask for the price before making your reservation. Pros: the decoration, the bar decoration, the entertaintment Cons: no menu, no prices, no prompt attention, not enough entertaint more

User review by abuelitodave 8/28/2005

I met my wife on a blind date at the Marrakesh. Nothing like eating with your hands to break through any formalities. We honeymooned in Israel and we ate at the Marrakesh in Jerusalem (not related). This place is great. I'm tired of the in and out rush of most contemporary restaurants. It's relaxed, friendly and the food is just wonderful. We've been back a number of times. Our kids love it too. You sit close to the floor and it's pretty dark. Some of the neat parts are getting served bread from a huge basket, pouring mint tea from a few feet above the cup, each course is unique and delicious and of course, the belly dancers. I've gotten up to dance as well. My wife loves it. It's a wonderful place to spend a couple hours for dinner. Relax and enjoy. We do. Pros: Food, Ambiance, Entertainment Cons: Low Seats more

I Don't Think I'll Go back There Again 4/23/2005

This was the first Moroccan restaurant I went. I dont know if they dont have the menu or its the Moroccan way; they will just tell you the menu but not the price unless you ask them. I had to leave earlier than others so I asked for a separate order but they said they only have the family style course. Although I was there for about an hour, I had to leave before the main course and dessert arrived and still had to pay full. So basically I paid $40 for one beer, a small cup of soup, a tiny piece of bread, and the Moroccan salad that I had a few bite... Im not sure if I want to go back there again. Pros: deco Cons: family style course, parking, price more

Fun and lively 6/21/2004

This place is FUN!! It's a great place to go with a lot of people. The food was scrumptious and the belly dancers were entertaining. Make sure that you correctly count the people in your party though. We started out with 6 people but one of us couldn't stay for dinner. When we received the bill, they charged us for 6 people even though the servers knew there were only 5 people seated for dinner. But in the end, they were cooperative, apologetic and promptly took the extra charges off the bill. Overall, I highly recommend this place. Pros: great food, fun entertainment, private rooms Cons: , expensive more

Fun meal 7/21/2003

This place is great for dining with groups, considering you can get a private room for the party. The food is served family style, so choose your guests wisely, you don't want double dipping to occur. Belly dancers come by allowing for entertainment with your meal. The prices are a little high, but the atmosphere makes up for it. more

Bastilla! 3/13/2003

Marrakesh is starting to get a little tired, but its still a really fun place to go with a date or with friends--you will be sharing the food with everyone at the table AND using your fingers to eat, so if you have problems with that, think twice. The food is excellent, but the service can be a little slow. Make sure you have some dollar bills to tip the belly dancers! Pros: Bastilla, Lemon Chicken, Belly dancers Cons: Price, Parking more

Fun, but expensive 10/29/2002

It's a cute place, we had a semi-private room for 15 people. The food is decent, and the service was pretty good most of the time. It's not cheap however, our bill was $650 for all of us, and it seemed the nickel and dimed us on everything. But I can understand why with belly dancers and fewer tables throughout the place. Food was decent (we had mixed grill kabobs, the shrimp was the best!), and plentiful. It was a very social way to enjoy the evening, even if it was a bit more expensive than I planned. Pros: Nice ambiance, Pleasant service, good for groups Cons: Relatively expensive, confusing menu more
