Don't order for delivery until these guys figure out the neighborhood! I live down and street and the delivery driver ended up in Santa Monica. You would assume they would have used MapQuest or have a navigation system in their car before hitting the streets. I had to talk to the driver 4-5 times before he found my apartment. The food was good but cold. I am picking up the food from now on. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: Delivery service slow and unknowlegeable more

Bought by Hoagies and Wings 11/18/2007

Well, I liked Markie D's but it doesn't matter because they've been bought by Hoagies and Wings. It's a shame, because Hoagie and Wings doesn't have sweet peppers.... and sweet peppers make the cheesesteak. Also, Hoagies and Wings' meat and chicken are way too salty... Pros: They still have cheesesteaks Cons: no sweet peppers, way too salty more

overrated cheesesteak 4/9/2007

me and my coworker felt like eating some cheesesteaks for lunch so we looked up the closest place we could find and this place came up. they claimed a great cheesesteak here in thier profile, they even have a really nice website...but dont be fooled, the cheesesteaks here are very run of the mill. i ordered a philly cheesesteak with american white cheese, bell peppers and onions, some curly fries and a drink which amounted to $10.50. the cheesesteak was no different in taste then the ones you can get at subway jack in the box. fries were decent. the place was decorated with a bunch of cheap memerabillia with philadelphia stuff written on it(how original). it was dead empty in there with the exception of 1 customer. the atmosphere was terrible, the strange thing was that we sat there for a good hour and the owner and cook(the only 2 employees there) didnt say a word to each other at all. would not recommend. Pros: empty, no line to wait. food comes relativly fast Cons: everything except the pros i mentioned. more

Why the bad reviews? 3/25/2007

My husband and I really liked Markie D's. It's not fancy, but is a cheese steak place suppose to be? Our service was good, everyone was nice to us. The food was really reasonably priced and really good! It might not be anything to write home about, but we will be going back! Pros: Great Cheesesteaks and service Cons: none so far more

Food is fine, not great. 3/22/2007

I was rather disappointed with this place. My cheesesteak was just plain bland, even though I ordered it with provolone, onions, and bell peppers. I added salt, but it was still missing something. I'm no cheesesteak expert, but I can't imagine this cheesesteak is the same kind that people rave about in Philly. Atmosphere wasn't great either. more

Terrible cheese steaks with all the charm of an automotive chop shop. 3/15/2007

I've had a lot of cheese steaks on both the East and West coast (None from Philly, admittedly). All I have to say is this was bad - real bad - even not comparing it other 'philly steak' places. THE FOOD: I had a cheese steak, fries and a drink which came up to about $9, which isn't cheap. The portion was average. The taste was not good. The flavor of the cheese (typical), onions and beef (cooked tough with a 'boiled' flavor) really couldn't compete with the incredible amount of hot spices / peppers thrown in there. I've eaten plenty of spicy Mexican food and don't have much of a problem eating things like roasted jalape?os etc.., but this cheese steak was just too spicy to enjoy. A good cheese steak is about the quality ingredients - not covering it up with hot spices guys - get it right! The spiciness will definitely be unbearable to some and certainly unpleasant for most. THE PLACE: It's a 'hole in the wall' and I don't expect much, but it felt like I was getting my muffer fixed in the back. You'll know when you get there. ;) OVERALL: Sadly, despite what all the 'employees' have said so far below, this may have been the worst cheese steak I've had. Even more sadly nothing really made up for it... It wasn't like the service was spectucular. It was a bit ""whatcha want?"" and ""here you go"", which is fine but not a saving grace. The atmosphere didn't make up for it. And well, the the price certainly didn't help. REMEMBER, GO WHERE THE PEOPLE ARE: There were only 2 other people there (5:30pm on Friday). I should have known better. I wouldn't come back and I wouldn't recommend it. :( more

Great Prices, Awesome Food! 3/17/2006

Markie D's may be a narcotic because I'm always craving it. I usually get the Philly Cheesesteak and cheese curly fries, a heck of a lot of food for under $10, and enough for two people to split. The meat is thinly sliced and tender and they give you a generous amount. The cheese fries are the best I've had in LA! They also serve this mint lemonade that is amazing...I haven't been able to find it anywhere else. It's the most refreshing drink (think non-alcoholic mojito) that's possibly the best lemonade I've ever had. They serve it in bottles so I usually take a few home (hint: shake this lemonade with vodka for the most amazing lemon drops!) The only drawback is that it's not open that late, but the food is worth it. And that mint lemonade is almost worth the trip alone! Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive, Amazing Mint Lemonade Cons: not open late night, more
