Good food, Fun Bartenders, and Kareoke! 10/23/2006

I never knew this place even existed, but Im glad I found it! The food is great and Sunday night Kareoke is a blast! The crowd is ecclectic, the singing is awful, but its a great time! Occassionally there is a good singer or two! The bartenders are friendly, the place is small, but fun. The food is your typical barbeque joint, deep fried, artery clogging goodness. Yum! Barbeque to die for! 6/1/2005

Market has, hands down, the best barbeque in town. If you want the wet, sloppy, fall apart ribs, go to your church basement cafeteria. If you want real, meaty, smokey spareribs-- this is the place. I have tried the chicken and it's also delicious, and the sauces are killer. They have great cole slaw too, and a good selections of beers on tap. The classic interior is spectacular. Their prices are a bit high, but you get what you pay for. It might not be the best place for a first date, 'cause to really enjoy it you have to dig in with your bare hands! BBQ not impressive 5/16/2005

Decor was great. Juke boxes at each table only eat your quarters once in a while (I was 8 for 10 in getting mine to work). Service is good. Fries were great. Unfortunately, the main draw, BBQ, did not satisfy. I ordered the roast beef. It was flooded with their BBQ sauce which was only ok. I would have liked to gave tried their other sauces, that come in bottles on the table, but the meat was already doused with the other stuff. It seemed like the roast beef was cooked separatly, and tasted pretty dried out, and then the not very warm BBQ sauce was dumped on top right before bringing it out to me. All right 12/15/2003

I wasn't blown away, but I'll go back. I really enjoyed the bbq chicken salad sandwhich, but I put a lot of extra sauce on it. My sister liked her bbq pork. I love bbq sauce so this wasn't quite my style. I am not a big fan of dry rub bbq like this. I went to Kansas City, MO soon after eating here. They are known for their ribs and dry rub is how they do it. Market BBQ stands up to where we ate there. I liked the atmosphere, old fashion family dinning. REAL BBBQ! 10/5/2003

I have been a customer for more than 30 years. I have been a fan of BBQ ribs all of my ligfe. That is BBQ, not boiled. Slow cooked, real smoke, dry rub. If these words mean anything to you, you will love Market Barbeque's ribs (chicken and other meats too). I have tasted ribs from 100's of restaurants acrossed the US, and Market BBQ, along with Rendevous in Memphis, has the best ribs anywhere. The restaurant itself is like a step back in time to the 1940's. Always clean and personable. Don't believe the negative stories, this place is GREAT! If you like REAL BBQ, that is! more

MBBQ 9/15/2003

I've been a customer of MBBQ since they opened in Mtka. The ribs & Chicken are great. After reading some of the reviews that spoke highly of Famous Daves I had to write. I can't understand why anyone would pay the price to receive a rack of ribs soaked in sauce, just the fact that your offered a roll of bounty at the table suggests they're covering up the actual flavor of the food or lack there of. Not worth the price 2/5/2003

I live two blocks away and used to dine in or order takeout every week, until I realized just how bad the food was. It's easy to get suckered into the neighborhood feel of the place, which Market has in spades, but it _is_ a pricey joint, and the food just doesn't cut it. The meat, ordered dry or saucy, is never tender (beef) or properly chewy (pork). The fries, even when dining in, are warm and soggy. The toast is just that: thin slices of cheap white toast with butter. The waitstaff does a great job, but the management, bartenders, and cashiers always leave me wanting to apologize for wasting their time. Have been going here for over 12 years. The quality of food has not changed and the service staff is respectful and 'normal'. The ribs are genuine and the smoke flavor is real (as opporsed to others that may use enhancing agents). The drawbacks: Ventalation is poor (even in the non-smoking section); the parking is weird (what happened to the back lot?); need to improve the music selections on juke box. does the staff care? 7/23/2002

Seriously, do any of the employees, from cooks to waiters, care? The food is dry and bland for the prices. Been twice and had the order screwed up each time. When we complained to the manager he was totally unconcerned about our problems and failed to make it right. Maybe after all the years this place has been around it's time to put it out its misery. It was also very fatty. My partner had the chicken and ribs combo. He agreed that it was just ok. We probably won't be back, we like Famous Daves. Pros: Great service, Downtown location Cons: Expensive lunch menu, Needs new decor more
