Might be surprising to find such a nice spot at a department store, but Mariposa is located at the Neimen Marcus. Spendy, but the food was excellent. Very nice view, and sometimes live jazz. more

We had wonderful service, despite being dreadfully underdressed in a restaurant with a live string duet and beautiful views of the sunset over Ala Moana beach. The food was spectacular and reasonably priced for Hawaii. more

Tasty 11/16/2008

Been here a couple times for dinner, food was good and service too. would recommend sitting out on balcony.\r \r Meal price was around 30-40 but that was w/ alcohol.\r \r You can see the fireworks from the Hilton on friday nights adds a little to the dinner. more

Good food, but plan to empty your wallet if you're hungry like me.. 11/2/2007

I've been there less than ten times, the latest times were during lunch because I figured I would spend less during the day than at night LOL... I think it's worked because I tend not to drink in the day and their menu is a little lighter.\r \r The most disappointing thing for me was when they cancelled their Mariposa Caesar salad. They used to use some fresh Romaine hearts, shredded parmesan, croutons, and their homemade dressing but then they took it off the menu for no reason. I refused to go for nearly a year because of that. Most recently I had a renewed excitement for eating there because on the menu they had caesar salad once again. I eagerly ordered it only to find that it was very average. There was nothing special about it in terms of their food quality, and they even put way too much dressing (but it might have been because they were extremely busy -- some holiday).\r \r However, their burger was excellent. Good restaurant in a mall!? 5/15/2007

Mariposa is located inside the Nieman Marcus store in Ala Moana Shopping Center. The restaurant is very nice and has a great view of Ala Moana Beach, especially during the sunset. However, if sitting out in the veranda/lanai, the traffic noise may be just a tad noisy. Overall, the food is great. The prix fixe menu was good and actually filled me up. The price is a little bit higher than expected, but good restaurants in Hawaii seem to be attached to malls or hotels (e.g. the Roy's in Maui is across the parking lot from a Safeway supermarket). The service could be a little better, especially with attention to detail. The wrong food item was placed in front of my wife TWICE. The first time, the appetizer was placed in front of her, and she informed the server that ""my husband has the fixed price menu, so that goes to him"". When the entree arrived, the server set my entree in front of my wife, to which she had to inform him that ""my husband has the fixed price menu, so that goes to him"" again. Didn't want to serve us "just desserts" 6/20/2006

I have usually enjoyed the atmosphere at this Department store restaurant but one particular time we went with our friends and children to just have dessert (they open later than other places and the children were hungry so lunch was at another place). But when we told them we just wanted to come in for dessert the hostess told us that they don't serve dessert. Confused as I just ate there with dessert a few weeks earlier I asked "there's no dessert at all?" She said, "Not if you're not going to have lunch". Obviously we found somewhere else to eat (our bill was pretty big too considering we like a little wine with dessert!) and I don't plan on going back for a while. I wrote to Neiman Marcus and was sent a letter from the local office inviting us to come back and have dessert "on them" so I did give them 3 stars but I don't think I'll be returning to that restaurant. more
