Best restaurant in Orange County, perhaps in all of California. 3/30/2008

At the expense of sounding repetitious from the other 2 reviews, this restaurant has to be one of the BEST restaurants in Orange County (perhaps even California). The atmosphere is absolutely great, the waiters are very accomodating and serviceable and the owners very personable and accomodating people. Husband and wife compliment each other perfectly. He is the chef always present overseeing the food going out and she the pastry chef making sure that everything at the restaurant is going well. The first time my wife and I went there, we thought that the food and service was great because it was a "new" place. We have been back 6 times and each time is as good as the last. We make it a point to say hello to Amelia (co-owner) and have her suggest what she thinks is great on the menu. They have a very special touch in that they always give you a chef's compliment and every time is something different and just as wonderful as the last time. Wine selection is also great (innovative "taste" of some great wine is available, a "taste" being about 1/2 a glass of the wine giving you the opportunity to "taste" different wines). Portions are JUST PERFECT! You never walk out of there feeling neither hungry nor stuffed to the max. The one thing you have to make sure you do when you go to Marche Moderne is to leave room for DESSERT. I am not a big dessert eater, but I ALWAYS have dessert there. The only drawbacks to the place is that in the weekends, you cannot go out there without reservations. We have been turned down twice on Friday nights because we made the decision late in the afternoon. I wish both Florent and Amelia lots of success so that OC can continue to enjoy their wonderful cuisine. BON APETITE Pros: Food, Ambience, Wine Selection, Knowledgeable personnel Cons: Need reservations, addicting more

I hear so many good things about this resturant when this open up and how this is proably the best "authentic" French resturant in Orange County and I love French Food, French People, French all together.....anyway the evonviroment is very nice and relaxing and our waiter was very friendly and helpful.....I order meat cutless for appetizer with the pate, salami, etc......and rabbit our my main course..my friend order the tastering menu.....some of the food was pretty good but other one has a more morocaan spice to it...my friend asked the head chef about the moroccan spices and he say he did add them in so i was thinking...hmm more fusion then "Authentic French" overall i thought the environment was good but not the BEST French place in Orange County..when I was in France, the every day food was much better and the taste has more "favors"..... but everyone taste is different and u should go there and judge for yourself the pastries was ok...because french pastries suppose to be MORE RICH, THICK and Full of Cream and BUTTER.... more

The Best Restaurant in O.C. 9/16/2007

I?ve been to the Marche at least 5 times, and every single time the food is spectacular! Rabbit is superb, and for all of you who don?t eat rabbits??. eat this one and call it a duck! For lunch you HAVE TO do pre-fix, $20 for 3 course ( with your choice of Halibut or scallops) it is absolutely delicious. Weekends get very busy, and I don?t think you can get in without reservation, but during the week and for lunch you should be fine. Bon Appetite Pros: Fantastic food! Cons: hmmm, nothing really, location is weird but once you are inside it is beautiful. more

STELLAR!!! A True Gem Polished to Perfection! 8/28/2007

I'll try my best not to sound like I'm some Marche employee trying to boast about the restaurant. The truth is, I'm just a NYC foodie (who recently moved back to Cali) spoiled by the bountiful array of excellence, ingenuity, and gastronomy found in The Big Apple. When I first ate at Marche Moderne I certainly expected a positive experience, especially since I had previously met the Chef and discovered that he AND his wife were BOTH chefs... one a classic French chef while the other a pastry chef. "What a combination!!" I exclaimed to myself and so there you have it... I had very high expectations to begin with... but when my wife and I proceeded into our meal I kept saying, "I can't believe how good this is!" The dishes were so well balanced; the natural flavors of all the ingredients were so perfectly enhanced that I almost forgot the dishes were compositions of different items prepared by mere mortals!... And then it dawned on me, that Chef Florent and his wife Amelia were sent by the gods to bless the O.C. with a taste of heaven. We've already spent my wife's birthday and our wedding anniversary there... and I'm just looking for excuses to go again... I wish I could do each dish we ate justice by describing them in words but that would be like trying to describe what the grand canyon looks like at sunset to a blind person... you might understand what it is but you wouldn't get all the amazing colors and subtle qualities between light & shadow... and yes, the food is THAT good... well, at least to me it is... so to each their own. But if you're anything like me than you'll understand and give credit where credit's due. The bottom line: They've only just arrived and are graciously letting us savor their world, and for that, I can only say, "Merci beaucoup!" & "Vive ut vivas!!!" Pros: Amazing selection of wines by the glass! more
