Editorial review from Citysearch 9/13/2012

Sorry Droshay, I have to agree with the negative responses from above. I also try to support local businesses. My father was been a loyal customer to Marburgers, hinch, myself and the rest of the family. The customer service treatment my husband and I experienced yesterday, had to be the most degrading and disrespectful treatment I have seen in quite a while. I am still stewing, and contemplating if I want to continue to support the store or bad mouth the heck out of the two younger employees to every hunter and fisherman I know. Horrific customer service. Maybe they think they are above all others because the sell sporting products to the mere people that use sporting products. Major disappointment for the owners! I found them to be quite pleasant. more

Excellent, Friendly, Pro Service 7/26/2011

The gray headed guy offered to order a special scope mount he did not have in stock (a leopold for $30,very reasonable). When it came in, another gray headed guy mounted and bore sighted the scope at no charge.... and it was a difficult scope to mount. He even brought the gun work rack out and put it on the counter so I could watch him mount the scope....and I had bought the scope and gun at another ""major discount store"". I've never experienced that kind of excellent service at a major outlet. I'll start buying from these guys... excellent prices on fly fishing equipment too. more

Poor service and unfriendly attitude 3/22/2011

I have been treated rudely several times .The owner or part owner is a very rude person. I will not shop at Marburgers anymore and most of my fishing and hunting friends feel the same. I try to support local bussineses and gave Marburgers a 3 year run . but I shall try no longer.why pay 10 to 15 % more for rude and unfriendly service. seems like the more you buy the woarst the ole guy is.I dont like the big stores but I will shop there over marburgers. Marburgers sets a bad example for other small bussineses. more

Support your local sporting goods store 4/8/2010

With the Walmarts and Academys strangling out small local sporting goods merchants Marburgers deserves recognition as a survivor and an institution. While not maintaining the huge inventory and selection of the big box chains I know someone will look me in the eye when I come in and ask to help. At times they get busy and may take a while to get to you but they have always been helpful. The prices are not that much more than the chains (if at all) and well worth the price of keeping an institution that through fishing tournament weigh ins and hard to beat fly fishing and rifle/gun selections, complete with experienced guidance, remains a link to what is, I think, a model Houton/Galveston sports tradition. The reviewer before me is welcome to fight the crowds and lesser service at Academy for that ""30%"" savings. Pros: Carries hard to find items at reasonable prices Cons: Parking and access during rush times more

If you like someone who thinks he knows it all treat you badly, then go there. You'll spend a good 10% less at any other sporting goods store, without being treated rudely. Pros: Near Galveston Bay Cons: Overpriced, Rude Owner, Limited Supply more
