See my full review on Yelp. As a deacon for 5 years and a member for 30, I have first-hand insider knowledge of this church (cult). I broke away over 10 years ago, and I am still purging their evil from my mind and soul. Maranatha, Jack Ballinger, and his teachings have destroyed lives and families, (including mine).
By the time I became a deacon, Jack had consolidated power thru changes to the Church Constitution, making the Board of Deacons a rubber-stamp committee, there to carry out his wishes and service his wants and needs.
Over time, his teaching has evolved to allow adultery and wife swapping to run rampant in and among the congregation.
Jack Ballinger refers to himself as a Pastor-Teacher. But the only pastoring he does is to fleece the sheep with his expensive taste for fine wine, suits, cigars, payroll, and a 401-k big enough to choke a horse, (although his original teaching held that the Rapture would occur before 1989, then was revised to2019). He does not believe in, nor will he do personal counseling, and will not reach out to those in crisis, be it personal, family or spiritual. Of 2 suicides in his "flock", (his son and mine), he pronounced from the pulpit that they were "cowards and weak". He said nothing of how we should have protected these boys from the homosexual child predator in our midst. Yet he went to court to actually defend the man, and regularly socializes with him.
There have been reviews on other sites saying Jack is teaching Flat-Earth theory. While crackpot science would be a good enough reason for most people not to go, there are far worse, deeper evils lurking there, (and at Maranatha's spinoff- Truth Bible Church). Take the warning from an old fool whose life and families were destroyed there. Maranatha Church is dangerous and an anathema to your spiritual interests.
