Fabulous salon 12/5/2005

I'm so delighted to find Matra's in Carmel. Your senses are immediately assulted by the wonderful Aveda products and a warm cup of tea. The environment immediately relaxes you, the staff is highly qualified, friendly and you feel they really care about your experience. I enjoy the fact that if my preferred sylist is not available, I can go to any of the girls and get the ""exact"" same haircut. . .I was truely amazed. I look foreward to my time at Mantra's and it's the only place I've ever been that does not accept tips and my haircut comes with a hand massage and foot bath! I feel well taken care of when I go to Mantra's and have recommended many friends to endulge in beauty secret! My hair looks, smells and feels so healthy. . . worse service....cold atmosphere 9/19/2005

I have never felt so un taken care of in my life. I was overcharged and then treated like it was my fault. The staff was rude and very smug about how they helped. I have found another salon with Aveda products in town and I warn everyone not to waste your time here. These people are no professional!!!!! Fabulous for wedding parties! 9/5/2005

I am not the typical girly girl--meaning, for my everyday life, my beauty routine is simple--clean, no make-up, no hair products. But I figured for my wedding, I would go all out. I had color done, one hair trial and two makeup trials. I was only 80% happy with my trials and sheepishly told them so. And then, get this--they listened and helped me find a hair and makeup that I was 100% happy with. I was worried for a second that it was my inexperience made me uncomfortable with my initial trials. They listened and asked what parts I like and made it work to my comfort. On my wedding, I felt beautiful and got compliments on my hair and makeup. I'll Go the Distance... 7/29/2005

After ""test driving"" many salons in San Francisco (in one case even leaving in tears due to a near mullet cut), I discovered this gem of a salon in Carmel and never need to test another salong again. While it takes me two hours to get to Mantra from the city, it is well worth the drive. Not only is the staff highly skilled...they are polite too. It's hard to find that combination at any high end salon in the SF. And the bonus foot bath and hand massage is always welcomed after a long drive! My car is now on auto pilot... The best place to be! 7/29/2005

I Just moved to monterey and i am so pleased to have found MANTRA.The staff is very friendly and caring. It is truly a place to go and relax.The foot,hand and scalp treatments are wonderful and my hair has never looked better!! I leave there feeling refreshed and beautiful.What more could a girl ask for! Plus the products are earth friendly which is extremely important to me.I recommend Mantra to all of my friends and family. Pros: Friendly staff, comfortable, Quality service Cons: NONE! more

Little shop of horrors 7/22/2005

Since this salon was voted ""Best of Monterey"" I thought I would give it a try. I tried it twice and both times left extremely unsatisified. The prices are some of the highest in the area which you think would indicate the staff is well qualified... WRONG!! On both ocassions I was given a very sloppy highlight job. On the second visit my hair was cut by a stylist with only 3 MONTHS EXPERIENCE who cut my hair very uneven. I paid $180 for one of the worst hair experiences. Absolutely Amazing for a Wedding Party 5/31/2005

I was married in Monterey May 29, 2005--my entire wedding party and my mother and mother in law visited Mantra the day of our wedding to be pampered and beautified. We were all very impressed. This Aveda concept salon far outperforms even other Aveda salons. All nine of us (from ages 5-78) were given complementary hand and foot treatments in addition to stellar hair and makeup services. Did I mention that the salon opened on a special day for us? What awesome service!!! The location was so beautiful that our wedding photographer started the photos at the salon. There are many beautiful lunch locations nearby so you can combine your beauty treatment with a lunch to die for. Top notch everything at mantra salon and spa! This is a place where I can count on getting a great cut, great color, plus complimentary hand and foot treatments, in a nicely designed setting, with beautiful, natural products from cheerful professionals. Mantra is a Sanctuary from Stress 12/27/2004

From the cerulean blue ceiling, apple green walls and hardwood floors of the shoppimg area to the salon with it's comfy easy-chairs, Mantra is beautifully decorated and always clean and cozy. The abundance of Aveda ""sensory journeys"" are a great value. For a reasonable fee (less than comparable salons charge for just cut or color!)you get: tea,a scalp massage with Aveda oils, a topnotch cut or color,a hand treatment, a foot bath AND a finishing touch of makeup.The staff are all skilled, knowledgable and loving. I get tons of compliments on my hair! Everyone seems HAPPY to be there and happy to see YOU when you come in. You never feel rushed - you've entered an oasis of calm. Such a treat for yourself! ""Horst of Austria"" was the premier salonas I was growing up in St. Paul and, within a year after it's debut in 1978, he (Horst Rechelbacher) had a concept for salons that set the stage for what an Aveda Concept Salon, like Mantra, offers today. It is his quest for authenticity and integrity that has kept me a client for life! Mantra has the highest standards for both products and precision skills. Yet, it is also a salon for those who seek a way to regain some lost vitality. Mantra is one mainstay of my lifestyle; it's great for my mind, body and soul! Beautiful Spa 12/20/2004

Mantra is a beautiful place to go and get beautiful! It is well located in a picturesque courtyard setting and the interiors are tastefully furnished, clean, and comfortable. Best of all, the services are excellent. I'm continually complimented on the hair coloring and cut I receive at Mantra. I always enjoy the friendly staff who make sure I relax and enjoy my visit. If you are looking for an overall wonderful salon experience, Mantra is by far the best choice in the area. First, you can never go wrong with an Aveda salon and when you enter Mantra, you will know that this is not just any Aveda salon. The atmosphere is beautiful and one of calm & relaxation. It is truly a spa experience! Enjoy the essential oils massaged into your scalp prior to a haircut. Relax as you receive your complimentary hand and foot massage. Mantra is by far the best spa to experience - it is truly exquisite and unique. Their treatments include a complimentary footbath, hand massage, and scalp massage. Each haircut I receive is precise and the extra time is taken to make it exactly what I want. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and responsive. One can go to any number of salons and get a decent hair cut or color. If you're looking for a bargain or a quick fix, this is NOT the place for you. Mantra is not like other salons. It is special...people matter here. I've never been anywhere where the customer comes first as it does here. Complimentary foot and hand massages! Complimentary makeup touchup! Fabulous tea served in the most wonderful of settings! So much time and effort has gone into creating this warm and beautiful environment, conducive to complete relaxation....no rushing...not even any tipping! Street parking easy to find. I was truely amazed at the first class service and the breadth of complimentary offerings. A perfected balance of personalized service with an entire team that made me (and all other guests) feel like the center of all attention. Complimentary tea, hand relief treatment, foot bath, scalp massage and shampoo, all before my haircut. Reasonably priced, no pressure of sales and no tipping!!! Highly recommended. Bravo.
