My friends and I have ate at Cafe 290 many times over the years and like a lot of the things they have to offer from the big breakfast and pecan topped french toast to the CFS at lunch but if you can get there on Saturday night you gotta try the chicken parmesan. ""What?"" you say! "" ""Italian food at a country diner in Manor ?"" But I got a tell ya, the chicken breast was crispy on the out side, tender on the inside and smothered in a zesty marinara sauce and parmesan cheese. Better than the O.G. and some other italian restaurants I've been to. My friend had the spaghetti & meatballs and I had to sample from his plate. Good stuff at a good price, about $9 each with salad and garlic toast. Sadly, I couldn't get a glass of wine with dinner and I didn't have room for Meringue pie but I may order as take out next Saturday. more

My husband had the large chicken fried steak. It came in a very hard crust out of which he dug out the steak. The steak was very, very thin and only 1/2 the size of the crust. I had a hamburger with a very thin pattie that was mostly raw, and I couldn't eat it. The onion rings were great. The entrance to the cafe has two pretty long and very steep ramps. It is the only way to get to the entrance. If you are handicapped like me and have to walk with canes or a walker, you can't get up those ramps. There are rails that are 150 degrees in the sun, and too hot to hold on to. Heaven help the people that must roll up someone in a wheelchair. Go elsewhere for much better food. We live near, and have given Cafe 290 three chances\r The third chance came just after their newly remodeled restaurant.\r Fresh paint and cruddy chairs.\r \r All I can say is, Slow and non friendly customer service every time we have been, High prices for not worth it food.\r \r Even the kids dont like the food and they will eat just about anything!\r Id rather go to sonic (ugg) \r \r Trufolkfamily more

I've driven past Cafe 290 on my frequent drives between Houston and Austin hundreds of times. I've never stopped by, however, because of their unfriendly-to-late-night-travelling hours. Finally, curiosity overcame me and I made the trek. Perhaps my decision to order the Cheeseburger/LoneStar combination instead of their famous chicken fried everything soured my experience. It was tasty, but not worth the ~20 minute drive from downtown. Cons: far, bright, fair food more
