Horrible Experience 1/12/2012

I did not enjoy my dinner at this restaurant. The food was not still hot when it got to my table on top of that it was over cooked. Now how do you have time to over cook my food but not careful and considerate enough to bring my food to the table when hot. The dishes also all taste the same. We ordered 3 different types of pasta at my table but they all tasted similar. Like it was the same sauce. Just disgusted! The dining room was way to crowded. The seats were too close together and the restaurant was too loud for a romantic dinner. I did not enjoy myself and would not recommend any one who wants good food for a good price to ever go there. I only rated the restaurant a 1 because it is required to rate in order to have review published. Not a happy customer or one who ever plans on returning. more

All I can say is WOW 10/8/2008

Wow! What a fantastic experience we had at Paul Manno's Cafe! You completely forget that you're in a strip-mall, and I half expected to see Sammy, Deano, or Frankie walk in the front door! The food was phenomenal, the service impeccable, and we even had a local celebrity sighting! Joe Buck, Dan Dierdorff, and Keith Tkachuk all came in about 45 minutes after we arrived. We were treated like family as soon as we walked in the door, and Paul Jr. was holding court in the dining room.\r \r The atmosphere is warm, intimate, and friendly. Service was impeccable! The specials during our visit were grouper, sea bass, lasagna, or linguine with little neck clams. The wine list was long and expensive, so if you plan to drink, be prepared. \r \r I started with the tortelloni in brodo, a nicely spiced tomato broth with capers and parmesan cheese. The pasta fagioli, enjoyed by my father-in-law, was thick and hearty, wonderful! I had a tough time choosing an entree, but finally settled on vitello (veal) saltimbocca. 3 thinly sliced, perfectly cooked veal filets in a delicious sauce, with prosciutto, sage, and fontina cheese. All entrees come with a side of pasta in either tomato sauce, meat sauce, or garlic and butter. I chose garlic and butter, and was extremely pleased. Others at our table enjoyed penne alla vodka, seared scallops, and the stuffed chicken with breadcrumbs, prosciutto, mushrooms, and mozzarella.\r \r For dessert we had tiramisu, which was the best I've ever had. The Italian cheesecake was delicious, and creative in its presentation. The cheesecake was sandwiched between 2 thin layers of white cake. Both desserts were garnished with fresh strawberries.\r \r Our bill averaged out to $50 per person, but that included a bottle of very nice Chianti. For the quality of food, as well as the atmosphere and service, I would consider the price to be well-deserved. Excellent choice for an anniversary or other special occasion! We WILL be back! Pros: Atmosphere, service, food Cons: NONE! more

Best Food and Service 12/23/2007

Great food and friendly service in an unrushed, Italian family atmoshphere, every time I visit. Always a delightful experience with great food. Pros: Great food and a friendly atmoshpere Cons: Gets pretty crowded and noisy more

Great food, sub-par service 12/28/2005

Great Italian fare. Everything we have tried on the menu has been superb. The service was poor with a 15 to 20 minute wait after having the entree dishes cleared and coffee served until the waiter finally showed up to tell us about the deserts. We could have had an enjoyable dinner in about an hour and a half to two hours, but it was two and a half hours plus thanks to an inattentive waiter. In the two and a half hours plus we saw our waiter 6 to 8 times. Do the math. It was painful. Pros: food, ambiance, hostess Cons: service more

the best there is 12/15/2005

I've been eating the Manno's food since before they had Paul Manno's Cafe.(back when they had Ciao) This is the best Sicilian food you will ever have. Not near as expensive as most of the places on ""The Hill"" and better food. I don't know how this that guy spent $100 a person unless he drank a lot of wine. Ms. Manno and Paul are the best cooks you'll find. I should know I've been eating it since I was 14. As far as atmosphere, it's quiet and the people are great. more

Don't miss this! 3/7/2005

Their veal chop is unquestionably the finest in the ciiy, as is their marvelously magical rack of Colorado lamb. A stacked salad of Buffalo Mozzarella, sliced Beefsteak tomatoes and sauteed eggplant drizzled with thick, sweetly-tart balsamic and extra-virgin olive oil is not to be mlissed. Run, don't walk, to this truly incredible trattoria. Pros: Outstanding food, Wonderful Ambience, Top-notch service more

Manno's rack of lamb is marvelous. Clearly the best restaurant west of 270. more

The Best 1/26/2005

I have been eating at Paul Manno's from day 1! This place has the best food in St. Louis and that is a huge compliment coming from a New Yorker! Comfortable atmosphere, extremely friendly staff, great food. You might get to see a local celeb as they frequent this place! I recommend calling to make reservations! more

The Best 7/20/2004

I have been visiting Paul Manno's since day one. This is the BEST Italian restaurant that I have found in St. Louis. I have turned many friends and family members on to this place! I have never had a bad experience and my family and I are always treated very well by the staff. Most of the staff recognizes my voice when I call to make a reservation. Ask for Greg or Ted as a server and you will have a wonderful experience! Also, check out the wall of fame at the entrance! Pros: Great Food, Great Atmosphere, Friendly Staff Cons: , Need Reservations, No large parties more

A Hill in the County 1/6/2004

Paul Manno's Cafe offers an excellent menu and excellent food in a west county location. If you do not want to drive to the Hill for great Italian food, you can find an equal environment, menu and chef at Paul Manno's. The only negative is that some of the staff can come off as arrogant and obnoxious. But keep this in mind, Paul, the owner is always hussling around his restaurant and makes sure that every patron is well taken care of. Also for every jerk in this world, there are usually two or three nice people. I have been waited on by one of the ""jerks"" at Paul Manno's, but two other visits to Manno's have allowed me to be waited on by superior staff. Pros: Food, Ambiance, Great Owner Cons: Arrogant Staff more

The best, get over it! 3/4/2003

First of all, get over the price thing, St.Louis. We've got it really good here. One of you whined about $100.00 per person. HA! In many, many major cities that is only average. Secondly, unless you've ordered more than a couple bottles of wine or cocktails your bill won't be that high. Now to the rating. Paul Manno's does not serve frozen lasagna. With that out of the way... Simply put, this is the best, most authentic Italian food I have had since I was in Italy 2 years ago. No, it's not Tony's. It's better! Take it from me, readers. I am very well traveled, have a wealth of fine dining experience and I will tell yout hat a restaurant does not have to be located in a palace to be great. Try it, I GUARANTEE you'll like it. Pros: GREAT food, GREAT service, House made desserts Cons: Only one location, Too full after dinner more

MARVELOUS! 1/21/2003

Wow what a resturant! The food is wonderful and the service is amazing. If you are looking for somewhere romantic to take the one you love. This is the place. They make you feel at home. I highly recommed the lamb! more

ok, BUT...TOO EXPENSIVE 1/2/2003

Paul Manno's is a nice little restaurant. The food is average, the service was average....But, when I got my bill and realized it added up to a $100 DOLLARS A PERSON, I wanted quality ingredients, and higher quality food. This place is nice, but if I am spending $100 a person it will be at Tony's not at a tavern in a shopping mall. Pros: music Cons: food, service, prices more
