Best

I've been going here for at least 10 years. The service is excellent, but they do get very busy for dinner. You can't go wrong with the Hot & Sour soup or Sizzling Rice soup. I lo...

Worst

My wife and I have always liked this resturant, but since our son was borned we have been regulated to eat take out. Since his birth 3 years ago, we have seen decrease in quality...

Good food and pleasant decorations 3/10/2011

This is one of our favorite, especially when we go shopping at Oakridge shopping mall. Food is nice, and served fast. The only disappointment is their tofu dishes. more

Best Chinese Restaurant in this part of town 1/31/2011

I've been going here for at least 10 years. The service is excellent, but they do get very busy for dinner. You can't go wrong with the Hot & Sour soup or Sizzling Rice soup. I love their Honey Walnut Shrimp or Chicken! General's Chicken & Mongolian beef are also favorites. more

Great Chinese Food!!! 7/30/2010

Me and my family have been going to Mandarine Gourmet for over 20 years! Mandarine Gourmet is by far my favorite Chinese food in town. They consistently deliver the best Chinese food. I personally love their honey walnut prawns, seasame chicken, mongolian beef and chinese chicken salad! They have a great lunch special which is very affordable and comes with a main dish rice, soup and salad for under $10.00. They other great thing is that Mandarine Gourmet has a large room you can reserve for birthdays and parties. We have had a lot of fun family dinners and gatherings there! Check it out! I am sure you will be pleased! Pros: Consistently great food! Cons: Can get a bit pricey more

Mediocre but Cheap 5/18/2010

We had a department lunch here today (Most likely because the exiting Manager knows the owner). Well, I was quite underwhelmed. I like my Chinese food FRESH and lively. This fare is the opposite of that. Samplings of Lemon Chicken, Mongolian Beef, Chicken Chow Mein, etc did not change my opinion. Maybe San Francisco has spoiled me. Here's my recommendation: Eric's 1500 Church St (27th Street) Pros: Fast service for large group Cons: Blase food, Not my choice with friend(s) more

just disappointed 12/28/2007

my friends and I ordered four lunches, only one was edible, The food came out quick but the service was terrible. I don't think I'll be going back Pros: comfortable ambience in dining room Cons: food quality, service, bathroom more

Avoid Take Out 12/20/2006

My wife and I have always liked this resturant, but since our son was borned we have been regulated to eat take out. Since his birth 3 years ago, we have seen decrease in quality, quantity, and kindness. We have tried out many items off the menu thinking it might be off day, but each time it was same bad experience with the taste. I know, it is take out, it might be bad because it might be cold, but I assure you that another Chinese resturant down the highway 5 miles further is much better quality and quantity but not great customer care. Therefore, I think this resturant is not good for take out. Pros: Easy parking Cons: Take out food is bad in terms of taste and quantity. more

We'll be back 7/16/2006

This weekend marked my first visit to Mandarin Gourmet, and we'll be back--even though we don't live in the San Jose area. Pros: speedy service Cons: crowded more

Fast and Delicious food 6/21/2006

People have been telling me about this place for years, but I never got around to going. The outside of the resturant doesn't looking like much, but get inside and it's clean and roomy. The food comes so quickly and it is amazingly addictive. The Chicken Walnut is a must try, infact I doubt you can go wrong with anything you choose. Even a simple salad is delicious. I think the flavors our perfect. You gotta try it. If you have to wait for a table just notice all the people getting take out. All these people can't be wrong. Pros: Fast service, good lunch time values Cons: Food comes quickly and little pricey more

A disappointment. Unimaginative ingredients. 2/18/2006

Of 4 dishes we ordered, 2 were appalling, 2 mediocre. The Chicken with Vegetables had 6 snow peas, the equivalent of 2 cans of slimy water chestnuts, and a lack of chicken. The Szechaun Beef should be called Szechuan Water Chestnuts. This dish had at least one cup of soggy water chestnuts swimming in a somewhat tasty gravy, and a modicum of beef strips. To our relief, the Mu Shu Shrimp had no water chestnuts, but it was primarily shredded, over-cooked cabbage, and we had to hunt for the shrimp. Thank goodness we had also ordered the Honeyed Walnut Prawns. Even so, this generic dish was not up to the standard we expected from its inflated price; we've eaten better versions at fast-food style Chinese restaurants. Our recommendation: Go elsewhere---unless you just love soggy water chestnuts! Pros: good parking, convenient location, okay decor Cons: crowded, slow service, expensive $$$ more

best ever had 12/14/2005

love the food, crab cheese puffs and peking chicken are the best!!! more

DELICIOUS 9/15/2005

I love this place; unfortunately, like other reviews... it is quite pricy for the amount. Love their spicy prawns and peking chicken; the fast service is awesome. I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends. Pros: Great food, Great Service Cons: Pricy more

Pretty good. 7/4/2005

This place is a little nicer than most Chinese restaurants and the quality is usually reasonable. The food tastes good and it is inexpensive. I like the eggrolls, sesame beef, fried rice, and honey walnut prawns. Service is mediocre, but most Asian places are like that. Pros: food, value more

Love the food! 2/8/2005

If you are looking for great Chinese food, this is the place to go! The servers are really nice too. more

Try the crispy eggplant in garlic sauce 11/11/2004

Vegetarians! try the crispy eggplant in garlic sauce!! I've never had this dish in any other Chinese place and it is totally awsome! :) you'll love it.. more

Consistent Service and Quality 11/17/2002

There's a good reason a crowd almost always gathers by the door waiting for tables (and take-out). Mandarin Gourmet may not be totally ""authentic"" Chinese cuisine, but people enjoy it. The ingredients are fresh, variety of dishes plenty, atmosphere is appealing, and service is prompt. Some dishes are on the greasy side, but that's typical with most Chinese food. My favorite dish is Kung Pao Prawns - quite tasty and best I've found locally. My only odd complaint -- it is often difficult to locate a bottle of soy sauce for your table. Pros: quick service, attractive interior, decent prices Cons: can be crowded, some dishes greasy, sometimes noisy more

a classic 10/6/2002

this is one of my favorite restaurants. i dont see whats the big deal about it being westernized. i would recommend this to anyone looking for a good place to dine. Pros: quick service, inexpensive, parking more

""Chinese American"" food 9/21/2002

If you want authentic Chinese food, this isn't the restaurant for you (and you can kind of tell by the clientele). But overall, the food is quite good! The prawns with cream sauce is very good. The prices are a little high and the portions are smaller than average Chinese restaurants but you're paying for service, which is way, way better than other Chinese restaurants. (The Mandarin Gourmet in Cupertino is a bit more pretentious than this one.) more
