i have been going to mama mia's in a long time now.their food is excellent, the portions are very generous. the "shrimp and calamari palermo" is to die for, i love their "stuffed shrimp", not to forget about the fabulous "veal parmigiana". i like going there on fridays when they have 2-4-1 appetizers and 3-4-1 drinks.you can't beat this.on mondays ladies drink for free during the football season.i'm always having a great time at mama mia.the servers are always kind and work like a team, helping each other.they're prompt and always there when you need them.it's amazing how this restaurant manages to keep up with the bad economy. whenever i am there, they're still busy, sometimes i even have to call in for a reservation. mama mia is the perfect place for a date, a family reunion, a birthday party and even for a business meeting. the hostesses are always very nice to their customers and try to please every single person that walks in. it's the best restaurant ever, me and my friend love it and i recommend it to everybody. more

I have to disagree with the post from ACASCANTE. My family and I have dined at Mama Mia's quite a few times and have had nothing but EXCEPTIONAL food and service. No matter what time of year, either on or off season, the restaurant is packed with people and still the service is ALWAYS fast, friendly and professional. The food is to die for ESPECIALLY the stuffed shrimp, not to mention the fried calamari, clams casino, shrimp parm and chicken francese! (Those are just a few of my favorites) EVERY dish we have gotten from there has been cooked to perfection! Fresh, flavorful, and filling as the portions are huge! It is simply the BEST italian food you can get! \r (It doesn't hurt that if your in the mood for sushi, or some cheesecake tempura for dessert you can order from the Sushi Room as well). more

I know this review is very long, but I have a strong opposition to this restaurant and feel it should not be open with the horrible service they have employed. This restaurant needs a complete overhaul to be presentable, and I have voiced my dismay at this establishment throughout South Florida...\r \r We have visited Mamma Mia's twice, both times with a different server, and both times the server was extremely pushy - telling us what to order, how to order, when to order and what we weren't ALLOWED to order per her standards. The first time we visited, we wrote it off as a bad server and the food was excellent. The second time, we wrote it off as a bad restaurant, and the food followed suit - completely night and day, flavourless and no presentation when the first time was so lovely.\r \r We ordered an antipasto appetizer (which BOTH servers almost begged us not to order - telling us our meals come with salad so why do we want an appetizer??), lobster bisque (which I will come to in a moment on quality, however BOTH servers also tried to get us to share the soup when we clearly ordered two bowls??), and two entrees. \r \r FIRST EXPERIENCE:\r \r The antipasto was wonderful, arrived as expected and all items were fresh. The lobster bisques arrived in delicious italian bread bowls, and was hands down the BEST lobster bisque we had in our lives - including against the real thing in Boston. I ordered a stuffed sole entree with angel hair pasta - to die for. My husband ordered a veal parmesan with linguine - was a bit dry and somewhat flavourless, but since the other food was so amazing, we didn't seem to notice his meal wasn't too good. \r \r In this first experience, the server fought with us every step of the way when ordering. She tried to persuade us not to order the appetizer, not to order the lobster bisque, we wanted to order two of the stuffed sole - but she wouldn't let us, telling us we had to have two different entrees and how could we order the same thing?? We didn't budge on the appetizer or the lobster bisque, but we did give in on the entrees ( A HORRIBLE IDEA, my husband would have enjoyed the meal much better had we both ordered the fish ). Overall, we let the lobster bisque and my meal (which we ended up sharing and throwing away the veal parmesan) shine as they rightly should have, and were excited to return. \r \r SECOND EXPERIENCE:\r \r We arrived, horrified to see the same waitress in the restaurant. We breathed a sigh of relief when another woman came and introduced herself as our waitress. However the relief was gone once she asked us for our drink order, as we requested to order the antipasto and two lobster bisques to start. She asked right away if we would be ordering entrees, when we said yes, she then started to try and talk us out of the soups and appetizer!!! I should have walked out immediately, but I was so looking forward to the food that I tried to not let the ridiculous service both me. We were extremely firm with this waitress, but she still told us that she wasn't going to come back to take our entree orders until we had finished the appetizer and soups??? I just said okay to get her away from the table. \r \r Our antipasto arrived first, with the presentation and taste exactly the same as expected. The night was off to a good start. But then the lobster bisques arrived. The first horror was that they were suddenly served in metal bowls instead of the wonderful bread bowl. We asked what happened, but the runner didn't seem to know what we were talking about. Upon opening the small bowls (they were cast-iron with lids), I was astonished to see a runny, thin mess. Nothing like the deliciously rich bisque we had tried just weeks prior. I tasted it, hoping it would taste the same, but it tasted just as bad as it looked. No flavour what-so-ever. Dismayed at what just happened, we decided to forget about the $10 a bowl soup and order our entrees. \r \r We had to literally call the waitress to order our entrees, and again fight to order. It seems that the stuffed sole was only a special, therefore I settled with the stuffed shrimp and my husband ordered lasagna. Both entrees arrived a little while later, and while the stuffed shrimp was again very good (the stuffing was the same as with the sole) the lasagna was flavourless and less than mediocre. \r \r Overall, the management in this restaurant should take a hard look at the staff they are employing - both in the kitchen and in the dining area. I am amazed that this restaurant has survived this long, and would not be surprised to hear that it does not survive this economy. more

Still The Best 9/8/2009

My favorite restaurant! I have been going since I was a kid and it just keeps getting better. Over the past 20 years they have turned into a delightful fine dining experience! They even have new tables, flat screen TVs, a beautiful wine attic...With all the remodeling you would never guess it is 20 years old, looking classier than ever! The food is amazing with great portions sizes and great prices. The Veal Osso Bucco and Fruttie Di Mare are my favorite dishes on the menu and don't forget to try the truffle garlic loaf off the appetizers. The servers are always sweet and professional and don't hesitate to follow their suggestions! The wine list is great and best to serve any taste bud as well as the dinner and lunch menu. Please Try It Is Amazing!!!! Pros: Price, Portions, And Service...Free Valet more

Mediocre Restaurant 8/29/2009

Although the food portions are of a nice quantity, the food is mediocre at best. Other Italian restaurants in the area serve superior quality dishes.\r \r The waitress who served us did not tell us about the specials that were posted outside. We did not have time to read the board as the hostess rushed us to a table. The waitress was anxious to take our order and we forgot to inquire about the specials. It occurred to us when we heard another diner ask if specials were available.\r \r Also, the waitress never told us about happy hour. We did have to remind her that the restaurant offers 3 for 1 drinks. She then told us that at the table we were to get 2 for 1. She said one had to be at the bar to get 3 for 1. When I ordered a glass of wine, I was informed that glasses of wine are not part of the happy hour. \r \r This behavior seems sleazy to me. We live in Hollywood and go out to dinner often. The other diner is a Monsignor at a local Catholic church. We will not return to Mama Mia Italian Restaurant. Pros: Nice size portions Cons: They do not encourage their specials. more

free valet for starters. friendly and professional service and the best food that i have had in florida. the parmigiana garlic oil rolls melt in your mouth. the house made dressing was a yummy creamy italian. the veal parmigiana was a veal chop on the bone and huge with the best red sauce with lots of garlic. the dessert was a fried cheesecake and banana dish with ice cream and leftovers for the next 2 days! great location. you can't beat it. Pros: great food, service, and parking more

This is the best restaurant i have ever been to! 12/4/2008

The service for starters was prompt and professional. We never had to ask for re-fills or table clearing. Our server was helpful and suggestive and WOW! the food was out of this world for a very reasonable price. The portions are huge we were eating the leftovers for days! i highly recommend this place!!! more

The best Italian outside of Italy 7/18/2008

Mama Mia was the best food I have ever eaten. The service was prompt, suggestive and professionl. They even had a delicious sushi bar. Diverse menu, and reasonably priced. The ambiance was beautifuland romantic and the garlic rools melt in your mouth. I recommmend eating here to everybody! Pros: Free Valet more

Eaten here many times and I give up--no more! 6/13/2008

The service is so poor at Mama Mia's, we have finally decided to quit going there. I have had rude servers, slow servers, and been ignored for long periods of time. They do have fabulous garlic rolls, but don't hold your breath waiting for a drink refill. The pizza used to be good, but now they serve something that resembles Stouffer's frozen pizza. The last (and final) time we went, we were seated outside and waited. And waited and waited. After 20 minutes during which we had not been offered menus, drinks, anything, we finally walked out. Mama Mia's does well because of its prominent location on Young Circle and fairly low prices. Try Conca D'Oro or Luce instead. Pros: Garlic rolls Cons: Rude, unprofessional service more

early bird menu best kept secret in Hollywood 10/18/2007

You have to ask for the early bird menu (good until 6:30 P.M., 7 days a week! Fabulous choices from 8 to 12 dollars, includes soup or sald, main course, beverage and mini canoli or terramisu. Also great party room upstairs. I have had two parties, both raved about. We go at least twice a month.\r \r Also offer nightly specials. Try to catch the 48 oz porterhouse steak for &18.99 (not a misprint!) Pros: good food, good ambiance, best unmentioned early bird in Broward County. Ask for it! Cons: a few slow waiters, but most are good more
