Mama Carolla's Old Italian Restaurant

This place was so nice, warm and cozy in the winter. Decor was great, the wait not too long, and the food was full of flavor! My husband thoroughly enjoyed his chicken dish. I thought they had the best house salad dressing in Indy! I tried the fettucine alfredo and added shrimp. The first bite was too overwhelming, it tasted like 35 cloves of garlic were pureed just to make my single dish. I grew up loving garlic, but this was just too much to eat! Unless you absolutely love garlic (and I mean LOVE-like you grew up sucking on a garlic clove and not a pacifier), do NOT order this dish! All others looked and smelled spectacular though! Overall, we had a tasty, romantic dinner for less than $60 (that included a carafe of house chianti, an appetizer, 2 entrees, and a dessert). Great value! I was with 3 other girlfriends celebrating a birthday. We all love Italian food and found this restaurant to be amazing! We are all from Muncie and made the 1 hour + drive down to enjoy the atmosphere and the flavors of the food. Truly a great place to go! You won't be disappointed at all! We all tried 4 different dishes and had appetizers and drinks and it was all amazing! We were told by some Indy friends that the wait would be horrible....we arrived at 5:30 and were seated immediately. By 5:45 the place was packed! So definitely getting there earlier is better! When we arrived, more than half of the outside tables were empty, and since they do not take reservations on the weekends, we thought we would be able to sit outside. After being told it would be 30 minutes, we agreed to wait it out because it was a beautiful evening. An hour and half later, after walking right past us literally 20 times, the hostess snidely escorted us to what apeared to be the only bad seat in the house. The food was excellent and our server was delightful, but the experience of trying to get seated ruined this restaurant for us. more

Love this place--if you want Italian, skip the chains and have a more intimate experience at Mama Corolla's for about the same price. Patio dining available in the summer; the restaurant itself is a house with small rooms that create a quiet, intimate dining experience. New remodeling has created a large banquet room for larger parties. The food is also wonderful--try the excellent and unique appetizers, as well as the not-so-run-of-the-mill main dishes. Would not reccommend for a large group. They have limited seating for larger parties. We had eight in our group. After desert was done and bills were handed to us and paid we were asked if we needed anything else because a party was waiting for our table. I thought it was extremely tacky. more

This up and coming Italian is fast becoming a respected part of the Italian landscape of central Indiana. The owners have gone to great lengths to create an atmosphere reminiscent of the old country and have the crowds to prove it. A wing is currently being added and one can only hope that the continues the tasteful precedent that the owners have set. A great place for a date or a secluded romantic evening. I took my boyfriend there for Valentine's Day and it was amazing. He's been to Italy and said that the decor inside is what most places in Italy look like. It's very romantic with candles giving off the majority of the light in the place. The food is fantastic and you get plenty. If you like Italian - You'll LOVE Mama Carolla's!
