Average Tourist Fare 1/24/2007

I was hoping for something with more local fare. The downside of traveling off-peak is that your choices are limited. I will say the fried scallops were great. It was a very kid friendly place. We had our son with us, so you would think someone would obviously (5 yr old boy...sharks) mention the shark tank. They didn't and we didn't see it!. Both the rest of the food and the staff were average. Pros: They were open Cons: Food, service more

Crappy Service 8/27/2006

The server was an idiot. No one seemed to know what they were doing.\r The threw out the sheet our reservation was on, and we wound up sitting there for 20 minutes longer than necessary. \r Food was borderling okay. The waiter didn't ask about how you want certain things prepared- I thought i was getting a broiled Mako, and it came pan fried and breaded, dry and boring.\r \r Not enough food either. Pros: Sharks! Cons: Waiter, Food, staff more

Restaurant/Aquarium? 8/1/2005

Good food, and enough choices to keep the non-seafood devotee happy. The decor is unique to say the least...bright, bold and funky, with sharks everywhere. They can accomodate groups, offer earlybird specials and will keep the kids mesmerized (or terrified, I suppose). The young waiters and waitresses, however, did seem to prefer to be anywhere but there. But considering the weather and nearness to the beach, who could blame them! Also for the kids, they're next door to one of the best mini-golf courses in OBX. Pros: Funky decor, Kid friendly, Ample parking Cons: The service staff, Not romantic at all more

The best of the Outer Banks! 6/10/2005

Of all the different restaurants we visited while on vacation, Mako Mike's was by far the best. They offer exquisite gourmet like food at an affordable price. The decour was unique and interesting and the service was wonderful. We plan on returning to the Outer Banks every year just to be able to experience Mako Mike's again and again!!! Pros: excellent food, speedy service, good atmosphere more

Mike's bites! 9/26/2004

No, it's not bad. Loudish atmosphere, definantly for families, no so much for couples wanting a romantic time out. The bright colors and shark theme kill any semblance of romance. I got the flounder stuffed with crab imperial, actually a great dish if not a shaed on the small portion's side. We had to almost pelt our teenage waiter with rolls for service as he seemed more interested in flirting with the nubile hostess than serving a couple of old geezers in their early 30's. If you seafood that seems slightly better than the average ""fry it and forget it"" ilk and don;t mind staring down a shark or two, come here. If you want riomace, excellent food and an experience that you will neverwrite a campy review about... spend an extr 10-15 bucks and go to Meridian 42. Pros: Sharks everywhere, Some notable items Cons: , Bored wait staff more
