Best Value in Wailea! 5/2/2006

We've stayed at the Maui Prince Hotel twice and couldn't be more happy with it! It is the BEST value in the exclusive Wailea area of Maui. It's a little further down the road, but well worth the extra 2 minute drive. The hotel isn't as fancy as some of its Wailea counterparts (think Grand Wailea or Kea Lani), but it has true Hawaiian flair. It's not as crowded as other hotels and the staff will remember you. The pool is small, but you can get a seat without trouble. The grounds are beautiful and great for walks. The beach at the hotel is quiet and private. The rooms are spacious, all have ocean views and private lanais (so your neighbors can't see you and vice versa). Overall, I highly recommend the Maui Prince. I seriously considered other hotels on our second trip to Maui because I wanted something "different." I'm SO glad I decided to stay at the Maui Prince again. If you're looking for celebrity watching and a fun nightlife, this probably isn't the place for you. If you want a relaxing Hawaiian vacation, stay HERE! more

  • The Scene
Once upon a time, Makena was considered "the boonies," known more for its nude sunbathers than for its resort hotels. Now the area is a favorite playground for well-heeled visitors who luxuriate in posh suites on this landscaped oceanfront stretch. This place is serene and understated, and the service is excellent.

    The Details
The rooms have a comfortable Hawaiian feel to them, as well as fantastic ocean views. You can sit on your lanai looking out on the islands of Molokini, Kahoolawe and Lanai. On the other side of the property, the dormant volcano of Haleakala greets you with its awesome size. Despite the frenzied growth along Makena, this hotel remains set apart on 1,800 acres. It's a good location for swimming, tennis, catamaran sailing and golf, with 36 championship holes. The road outside takes you to Makena's Big Beach (the last undeveloped beach of its size on Maui), LaPerouse Bay and through Maui's last lava flow, which spilled out of Haleakala around 1790.
