Hawaii on budget? Yes it can be done! Whether just visiting, or moving here for a lifetime, you can do what we have done, relocate to Oahu’s overlooked Waianae Coast, the island’s dry side, where sunshine and low-cost living reign supreme. Located about an hour-and-a-half from downtown Honolulu and Waikiki, Makaha and the Waianae Coast are Oahu’s best-kept secret. We are the leeward side’s last remaining rural community, with uncrowded beaches, a small-town feel and affordable properties listed for sale.\r \r One year ago we relocated from the rainy Pacific Northwest after a two-week visit in mid-January. It took us one year to sell our house on the mainland and make the move, but 20 months after resettling across the ocean we haven’t looked back. Yes Hawaii on a budget requires compromise, a reduction in your dwelling’s square footage perhaps, or leaving your car on the mainland and getting around by bus, and probably a change in diet, and for sure some culture shock, but if tropical sunshine and warm Pacific beaches are your life-long dreams, then the Waianae Coast is the place to be!\r \r Makaha Valley Towers, a mid-rise condominium complex with landscaped tropical grounds, floor-to-ceiling panoramic views of valley terrain and mountain ridges, and, always, the blue Pacific filling out the horizon, is resort-style living on a day-to-day basis. While it offers not the hustle and bustle of Honolulu and Waikiki, it is paradise made affordable with just about the lowest home prices in all of Hawaii. Additionally, this well-constructed building (eight-inch thick concrete walls between each unit) is well managed, with private security officers always on site to provide a ""gated-community"" feel. \r \r Okay, here's the downside: once again Makaha Towers is NOT located in the midst of things hustle and bustle. But if you want uncrowded beaches, tropical sunsets day in and day out, and don't mind driving a bit to visit Oahu’s more famous visitor destinations, then Makaha Valley Towers is certainly worth a look!\r more
