Magnolia Bird Farm

I brought my Green Wing Macaw ""Samantha"" to the Magnolia Bird Farm in Anaheim to be groomed. While they were brutally man handling her with bare hands around her neck, Samantha had a stroke or a seizure that lasted almost 5 minutes. One of the male groomers told me that ""many large parrots die from a heart attack in their owner's arms during grooming."" He told me that WHILE Samantha was seizing. Samantha was ice cold, her eyes were rolled to the back of her head, and her feet were all twisted and balled up stiff. She was stiff and she fell to the side. Then the other male groomer lectured me because I didn't ""warn them that she was prone to seizures."" Samantha has never had a seizure while being groomed at Fran's Exotics in Cypress on Valley View St.. At Fran's Exotics, they are gentle and they cradle the bird in a towel while grooming. These two men at Magnolia Bird Farm were very rough, and they used their bare hands and it looked like they were strangling her! Then the female employees were trying to cover this up and hide what was happening from the customers to avoid bad publicity. Samantha regained consciousness, and then the female employees were rushing me and my parrot out the door while I was trying to ask them questions about what happened and what to look out for. I have been going to them for 7 years for parrot needs. I have spent many hundreds of dollars there on food, cages, tree stands, and toys. They all know my name, phone number, and address. I can't believe how they handled this and they didn't even have the decency to call me and ask me how Samantha was doing! Probably because they are afraid of being sued! I am still trying to get Samantha to trust me again. She is still traumatized, and she doesn't trust me like she did. She was always protective over me... and I let her down. Please, NEVER have a large parrot groomed at The Magnolia Bird Farm in Anaheim. They do not sanitize the clippers, the place is not clean, and the men and VERY rough with the bird. They strangle them! more

I bought a parakeet for my daughter, it had seizures and died two days later. We took it back to Magnolia, they said that it was a genetic disorder(bad breeding practices?). So we got another bird, as we were leaving I noticed that its wing was shaking. The wings were just clipped and they said that was why. Well, the bird almost always had that one wing shaking, it was extremely nervous all the time even though we kept the back of the cage covered and played music, etc. to try to keep him calm. One day when the play top was open 6 weeks after we got him, he jumped down and went and hid for about an hour. We had to fish him out from under our kids bed. After he would not let us hold him and we left him alone for a day. When we took him out again we could see some feathers had fallen or been plucked out. He died during the night. I had a parakeet as a child and other birds since, and I always thought this bird was too nervous and just ""off"". I went to SanDimas feed and grain and bought another parakeet, this one does not shake at all or have seizures. I don't know what they are doing at Magnolia bird farm, but it is not good if they are breeding neurological disorders and bad tempers into their birds. PLEASE DO NOT GET YOUR BIRD GROOMED HERE, this is the worst experience I've ever had here. This place is dirty and filthy and one of the employess in charge of grooming had a cold!!! Three, burn out looking men were going to groom my bird. These workers did not look happy, all they said was, ""Did you sign in?"" You have to sign your name on a sign in sheet that says, WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR BLEEDING, TRAUMA OR DEATH TO YOUR BIRD. Nice touch right? Then asked me to put my bird on the counter which I did. None of the three employess cleansed their hands with sanitzer, and then tried to put his hand on my birds back rather than just pick her up. My bird did not want to be anywhere near him. She jumped off the counter. My bird loves people but was blatant that she did not want to be groomed there. The guy says, ""oh we're going to have to use a net on her."" Then tried to argue with me why I didn't want a net used on her. I've never heard of anyone using a net at our vet's office or any other grooming place.
