Not a bargain 1/15/2005

The food here is delicious -- and would be just as good for about 2/3 the (high) price. I don't understand all the non-German food on the menu, though -- why include all the ""american"" stuff if you're selling the place as an authentic German restaurant. My biggest complaint is that the place is just plain dull -- maybe it was an off night (a cold January Saturday) or maybe Milwaukeans eat early (we were there about 8), but the place was half empty. No music, nothing interesting to look at -- and our server was Brunhilda the Hun. Next time we'll try another German in town. more

Great German Cuisine 10/25/2003

Delicious, authentic German fare. It is definitely not the place for light, yuppie food. The roast pork shanks are as good as can be found anywhere. The appetizers, the schnitzels and the red cabbage, sauerkraut and creamed spinach are ""to die for"". Somehow, Mader's makes potatoes taste better than at home or anywhere else. Mader's has excellent parking facilities and an efficient parking staff. I thoroughly enjoy the strudel each time I am lucky enough to dine there. The decor is half of the fun. The waiters and waitresses are helpful, courteous and efficient. All in all, Mader's is one of the finest German restaurants it has been my privilege to enjoy. Historic german restaurant 4/10/2003

this is a great german restaurant in downtown milwaukee. food is for the most part excellent-dont miss the hungarian ghoulash. the setting is very impressive-many famous figures have dined there. the lobster bisque soup is ok, the potato pancakes are a nice side dish. service is quite good and elaborate. alot of german beers and a gift shop to boot. this place is pricey but worth it for a special meal or a memorable evening. more
