Best

We ate here a few months ago and loved it! This is a great family restaurant and has the best fried chicken! The steaks were also divine! I would highly recommend this restaurant ...

Worst

Moo

Food is fairly good, but you are treated like cattle. Herd you in, feed you, and herd you out so they can get someone else at your table. Pros: Corn Muffins Cons: Rushed,...

This is the most overrated restaraunt ever 12/4/2005

I have been to Maddox several times and have always been extremely unimpressed. About 75% of the menu is deep-fried and nothing tastes good (apart from their rolls which are fairly descent). The last time I went we had reservations and still waited for 30 minutes. The only reason to go to Maddox is if you want big portions as Maddox does give you plenty of food. Pros: Descent prices. Cons: Terrible food., Far too busy more

The Almighty God of Steakhouses 7/12/2005

I drive there every summer all the way from Washington just for the steak (and make an appearence at the families house just to make them happy)!. My favorite is the prime rib with aju and mushrooms! My mom! always gets the 32oz. yes 32 ouncesPorter house. All their meat they get fresh off thier livestock in the back! The meal soups and appetizers are amazing (especially the rasberry butter)! The place is massive and a lodge next door. Anybody that denies this is the best, u will be struck down by 32 ounces of steak! Pros: steak, steak, steak, , great for groups, rasberry condoments Cons: very busy more

What a great find! 7/5/2005

The restaurant is a great place for a quiet romantic dinner, a family dinner or other special occasion. How can this be? There are so many rooms and settings that you will find a comfortable place no matter what the occasion or who you are with. They even have a very large lodge adjacent to the actual restaurant that can accommodate very large groups. This is my first choice - this is one of my very favorite places. Pros: unique entrees, delicious rolls, friendly service more

Mediocre and overpriced 6/27/2005

Went there for the first time on saturday. The place was busy, but we were seated within 5 minutes. My wife and I both had their kwik-lunchs. I had the chicken and my wife had the beef. I don't see how anyone can say the portions are large, as all I got was one chicken breast, a scoop of carrots and yams, and french fries, and my wife gor the same, but with a breaded beef patty weighing about 4 oz. With one soda and one piece of pie, the bill was close to $30. The food was good, but not great. A lot of money for a mediocre lunch. more

Maddox - Not entirely over-rated 6/24/2005

I have visited Maddox several times and have always found my experience very satisfying. The buffalo steak is a one-time thing only, because it is probably lower quality than beef, but just to ba able to say ""I've had that,"" you have to do it once. The steak is of the utmost quality, and that's the reason you go there. As far as food goes, the sides are only average compared to other high-class restaurants. Try the veal! It's to die for! And the shrimp steak is very tasty. For dessert, try one of the ice-cream pies or one of the classic pies. All are delicious! Pros: Location, Comfort Cons: Side-dishes average more

A Wonderful Dining Experience 6/5/2005

I work at the Howard Johnson Inn which is 5 miles from this restaurant and I send people there every day that it is open. I highly recommend this place. They are wonderful people and not just the staff, the owners as well. They are very involved with this community. And for those who say they had a long wait time...they didn't stay at our Howard Johnson..we give our guests VIP cards..so that they are seated immediately. I have not had one person come back and tell me that they didn't enjoy their dinner. We have many guests who will make reservations at our motel, just so they can eat dinner at Maddox. It's a truly wonderful place with delicious food (especially the Cream of Potato Soup). And being someone with 3 kids...it's wonderful to see that they offer kids meals for 99 cents on Tuesdays...you can't beat that price!!!! Pros: Great Food, Great Staff/Owners, Priced Wonderfully more

Excellent 5/31/2005

I'm surprised that noone's mentioned the Shrimp Steak. The prime rib is fabulous and the filet mignon wonderful but the Shrimp Steak is unique and soooooo good, I crave it. One nice thing is you can go in and buy frozen steaks and take them home to cook them up yourself. I like that. We always love an evening at Maddox. It's not at all fancy but neither are we so it works. It's very important to make reservations. You also must have the raspberry desert, I forget what it's called but it's to die for. Pros: Food, Frozen case, Did I say the food? Cons: Far away, Very busy, Old building more

What's the big deal?? 4/28/2005

I drove 45 miles to go to this steak house due the all the hype I have heard about it. I was NOT impressed!! After waiting nearly an hour(OUTSIDE!!), we were ushered up stairs to the ""attic"". I had to bow my head when I stood up! Great food, but I want more from a restaurant, especially one that is supposed to be so wonderful. Where is the atmosphere?? The ambiance???? I was not impressed. What's the big deal?? Pros: good food Cons: long wait, poor seating, no atmosphere more

The Best 1/14/2005

I can't believe some of these other restaurants are rated higher than Maddox. I have eaten at most of them & they do not compare. If you want great quality with good service, this is the place to visit. It is well worth the drive. They also take reservations, highly recommended on a weekend. more

wonderful treat anytime 8/2/2004

I have loved Maddox for a long time, and going there is always a treat. The rolls with raspberry honey butter are heavenly. The steaks are juicy, and the portions are HUGE. Be sure to try the flavorful homemade root beer or sasparilla. If you bring kids, the staff is very helpful and have seating and menus to keep the kids happy. They are also great with groups and make sure that everyone gets everything they need. That said, in order to have the best experience, make sure you make reservations, and be sure show up on time for them. If you don't, be prepared for a long wait to be seated. Try to go on off peak times (not Friday & Saturday night) and not on, or too near, holidays to avoid the crowds, noise, and having them run out of your favorite dish - like prime rib! Pros: Delicious food, helpful staff, takes resevations Cons: , often crowded & noisy, far from salt lake more

Good food in a crowded place 7/9/2004

We went there for a special occasion - at the wrong time - we had to wait for 45 minutes to be seated - what a madhouse. The dining rooms are very tightly packed with tables and wall-to-wall people - and noisy - not a real pleasant experience. The food was good, generous portions, homestyle. My nephew tried the buffalo steak - it was ok. They are known for their fried chicken - better stick to that to be safe- and go on the off hours - it is a HUGE local favorite. Pros: fried chicken, generous portions, homecooking Cons: , crowded, noisy more

Best Around 5/27/2004

Maddox is the best around. Their food melts in your mouth, and their rolls are to die for. Their steak is perfectly seasoned and cooked just the way you want it. The atmosphere is fun, and the servers are very polite. On a scale from 1-10 I would give it a 20! Pros: Reasonably Priced, Good Parking, Great food more

BISON 10/30/2003

Maddox Ranch House is also known for it's fabulous Bison/Buffalo meats, and Fried Chicken. Maddox features Medicine Lodge Bison, as a health alternitve to Beef. Also Maddox has a wonderful banquet facility called ""The Lodge"". more

We have enjoyed our dining experience here many times, and have never been disapointed. Excellent food and service. Home made food, desserts to die for. The rolls are from heaven !! Fun atmosphere, you don't need a suit coat and tie, just pants with an elastic band..........the portions are huge !! Pros: Beef Quality, Service, Consistency Cons: Lack of Sea food, Lite menu items more

Best Food in Northern Utah 6/6/2003

I grew up near Maddox Ranch House and didn't realize what a treasure it was until I moved away and found that no other restaurants in this area come close to its qualityand value. It's eaten there many times and have always been amazed and the consistency of their quality. I've never been disappointed! Pros: Excellent Food, Consistent Quality, Excellent Service Cons: Noisy Atmosphere, Crowded more

Still the best 1/3/2003

I have eaten at this restaurant since I was a kid many moons ago. They still do a steak better than anyone. Pros: food itself Cons: no atmosphere more

WOW 12/19/2002

This is what I want when I think steak. The best I have ever had. Even the water is special pumped from their own well, better than bottled! The meat, THE MEAT! is like none you will find anywhere. The service is devine. Go to heaven and find Maddox. Pros: Seafood cocktail, homemade soups, Homemade breads Cons: a long way from SLC more
