Mexican food? Hardly. I was in town with my wife and found this highly trendy place called Mad Mex. It looked friendly and the atmosphere was nice.
My first turn off was that Mad Mex charged for chips and salsa. Most all authentic Mexican restaurants bring them to your table before you order. But that's ok, I figured the meal would make up for it..
I ordered steak enchilada and my wife ordered chicken fajitas. The enchilada meal came with rice(rice 'o Roni"", black beans, a few leaves of lettuce with tomatos, some type of thick salsa and the thing they called enchiladas. The black beans were good.
I found this meal to be far from being anything close to authentic Mexican. In fact, it was quite gross with whatever orange sauce they topped it with.
I explained all this to the manager and he said it was ""California Mexican"". WTF? However he did not change me for my meal.
My wife did not find her fajita very authentic or even tasty as real Mexican.
I would look elsewhere if you want to eat Mexican!!
