Mad City Cafe is one of the best restaurants I have been to in a long time. I pass the place, which is located in a suburban neighborhood, every day and had been wanting to try it ever since it opened. When my girlfriend and I first went we thought we were out of luck, because the hostess asked for our reservation. She seemed slightly surprised when we told her we didn't have one, but she seated us almost immediately nonetheless. The warm and inviting atmosphere of the place is in stark contrast to the restaurant that previously occupied the location.
Instead of appetizers we had their version of French onion soup, which was absolutely amazing. The entrée menu has salad, pizza, steak, chicken, fish and pasta options, every single one of which sounds unique. The pizzas are particularly interesting, like the Uptown, which has brie, artichoke and spinach. While salads and pizzas run around ten dollars or less, expect to spend between fifteen and twenty dollars for any other type of dish. The price is well worth it though, as the innovative creations on Mad City's menu are so well executed as to create a dining experience you will not soon forget.
