Some schools have everything going for them and others have nothing going for them.... Brasher Elementary School here in Alexandria, La. seems to have a little of both. Or should I say a lot of some and a little of the other.
Brasher is a fairly new school (only about 33 years old). It was already open when we moved into the neighborhood in 1971. It was an excellent school when my kids attended but now that I have grandkids gong here, it is quiet a bit different.
Of course, the Principal has everything to do with the way a school operates and the Principal at Brasher Elem. now, does not put forth the energy to make this school succeed. The test scores are low, there is very poor discipline, no books come home from school for homework, and yet the teachers give a ton of homework. There is no recess during the school day, and kids are not allowed to talk at the lunch table. When do they get to release their tension???? When they get home, then the whole family has to deal with the built up tension as it explodes.
Give the kids a break!!! Working adults get several breaks a day and most are free to talk some while working. How do they think kids can remain on task with no relaxation during the day.... no time to rest their mind or their hands.
This school's administration is deplorable.
