My mother's neighbor recommended Lynch Plumbing when her water heater broke down. A Lynch service tech came out to swap out the water heater. The price for the water heater and install were quite high. However, my main concern is that they convinced her that she needed an expansion tank to be installed above the water heater to the tune of $125 extra. The tech actually told her that is was code in Pinellas County and that it had to be done. She called me, very concerned and asked me if this is true, I researched and found out that it is not code at all. In fact, her home (only 11 years old) would not benefit from an expansion tank whatsoever. Her home is a small, 1 story home with no backflow valve at the curb so there is no reason to suggest an expansion tank. When I told her this, she promptly called Lynch Plumbing and the owner, Mr. Lynch convinced her that she needed to have it and that he would reduce the price of it (these tanks are only $18). She then called me to see if it sounded like a good idea. She put Mr. Lynch on the phone with me and he was extremely rude and condescending. As a licensed contractor and building inspector, I knew that she did not need this and it became obvious that he was upselling an unnecessary item to help make quota on a service ticket. For this dishonesty, I DO NOT RECOMMEND this company at all. Good plumbers are hard to find but I final found one in the Tampa Bay area - Derek Olin of Olin Plumbing.
