The Best Happy Hour(s) 11/24/2002

While it may seem a little seedy, the food is good and the drinks are better. The service ranges from outstanding to marginal, but for the most part is above par. THe jukebox is fantastic and the best deals in town can be found over happy hour. Pros: Inexpensive, Strong Drinks, Tasty Food Cons: parking, sometimes packed more

Can't miss 11/20/2002

Liquor Lyle's provides a wonderful setting for those who are out to have a good time, rather than impress others. The fabulous happy hour deals and block of cheese make this place a can't miss. The best comparison would be to "Moe's Tavern". Pros: Real people, Great deals, great drinks Cons: Sometimes crowded, limited parking more

HORRIBLE BARTENDER 11/17/2002

I heard a lot of great things about lyle's and so went down with a friend on a busy saturday night. I squeezed up to the bar and pulled my visa out. Some old guy with grey hair was bartending, and doing the worst job i've ever seen. He was moving very slowly around the bar in a circle, pouring only one drink at a time. When he got to me, he looked at my visa, said "we don't take credit cards" and then proceeded to make another entire circle before getting back to us. I don't care how busy your friggin' bar is, making someone wait 35 minutes for a drink is unacceptable. That guy would not have a job at any other respectable bar.     This isn't a pretty bar. The tiled facade is neither retro nor antique--it's just old. It's not a trendy bar. The same Minneapolis locals have been coming here for ages and the crowd turns over only as new people move into the neighborhood. But it's this very lack of pretension that makes the spot so inviting for large groups of friends to crowd into the worn booths for cheap beer and conversation.
