Best

Some of the best burgers and fries in Charlotte in an interesting little shop. It's nice that there are still some non-chain places like this still around.

Worst

This place used to have the very best chili in Charlotte. Very mediocre now.

Editorial review from Citysearch 3/31/2014

BEWARE - AUTO BREAK-INS\r \r Do not go at night! Several auto break-ins in the past year..just recently myself. Until security cameras are posted, I would only go for lunch, still not sure about that. We were just recently broken into and another on the same night. Not sure what the issue is, however these creeps know when you go inside and when you have your food. I know the cooks go outside and smoke a lot so I don't understand how they time it just right..makes you wonder, especially when the waiter says, ""we haven't had one in 3 wks, I thought it was over.""\r \r As for the food...5 stars more

Great food .... not fancy 9/12/2010

If you are looking for fancy, this is not it. However, if you are looking for good honest food for a fair price, then you have found it at Lupie's. We drive over an hour several times a year to eat here. Our favorite is the vegetable plate. The food is carefully prepared and the quantity is generous. We especially like the mac and cheese, slaw, green beans, and pintos and onions; a nice hunk of corn bread comes with it. The quiche is also very good. Lupie, the owner and creator, is almost always there, which explains the consistency of the food. more

Wow, that was bad. 6/3/2010

Thursday night at 8 PM, we were greeted and seated immediately. Good start. Unfortunately, I asked two questions about beer (""Do you have any drink specials?"" and ""What do you have on tap?""). The waiter---a bearded, scruffy-looking loser dressed as if he put on what he found in a dumpster down the street---suddenly turned and walked away. We watched for the next ten minutes as he carefully walked from one part of the restaurant to another, casually drinking out of his to-go cup and intentionally ignoring us. Eventually, my wife and I left. No chili is worth that sort of treatment. What's more, we both worked in restaurants. When you hear horror stories about what waiters do to your food, THAT is the guy that does it. Eat at Lupie's at your own risk. Pros: Easy to walk out of... The menu describes good chili... Cons: Service was the worst I've ever had... more

Very much a neighborhood joint type place 2/21/2009

Finally got around to eating here after hearing about and reading about this place. It's very casual. Got there just in time - seated right away, and 10 minutes later there was a line out the door. We split the vegetarian burger and the vegetarian chili. The burger was average - don't get mustard on it - it overpowers all the other flavors and even wiping it off won't make it go away. The vegetarian chili was pretty good - if you're used to meat chili, you'll definitely notice the difference, but if you're OK with meat substitutes, it's good. You go there for the scene and for affordable food. Not the best food you'll ever eat, but a good experience. Pros: dark, almost punk rock environment Cons: food was alright more

Over Rated 11/18/2008

I have tried this place several times now and I am calling it quits. The food is medeocre at best. Burgers are ok but I can find a better burger at dozen places in Charlotte. I had the worst piece of meatloaf ther I have ever had, it was actually inedible and it was the daily special! It tasted like it had sand in it, it was really grainy. I have heard so many people talk about how good this place is and I guess people have different tastes but I think the food is bad. Also the menu is very limited. You would think that as few things as they have on the menu they would have perfected them all. Pros: None I can think of Cons: Mediocre food. more

Horrible Customer Service 10/28/2008

I would like to say that I have been a loyal customer to Lupie's ever since I moved to Charlotte. However, I have never had the displeasure of meeting Lupie myself. The reason I mention this is because as we all know that Lupie's is known for there generous portions. The other night my husband and I split a Chef salad and we could not believe our eyes. The salad we are talking about is massive and could feed four. The point is that when we received our salad it was like going to Apple bee's and ordering a side salad. We first mentioned it to our waiter and he told us that we would have to take it up with Lupie ourselves.\r \r After dinner my husband kindly went to pay the bill and brought this to her attention. NOT ONLY WAS SHE RUDE BUT TOTALLY DISRESPECTED OUR CONCERNS AND OURSELVES AS CUSTOMERS. SHE WAS A ROYAL B##TCH. \r \r With all of that being said. Honestly, it is really not that great. The reason they have their reputation is because you get your buck for your money. How hard is it to make a decent pasta dish. So why would she try to diminish her reputation over a measly dollar. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM THE OWNER HERSELF ""LUPIE""\r \r more

Avoid, worst burger, very Dirty place 6/7/2008

After almost 10 years, I was suprised Lupie's has still not been cleaned. Filfthy! Carpet is so gross it does not even resemble carpet. Bacteria is going wild there and on chairs, tables, everywhere. My husbands food had a fly wing in it. \r Worst burger I have ever had. Dry, overcooked. Chili had no taste. I know now why it was almost empty on a Friday night at 7pm. I will never go back. Service was ok. Pros: service Cons: bad food, dirty place more

Favorite restaurant in Elizabeth neighborhood!!! 3/21/2008

After living in Charlotte my entire life, I always heard about this place, but it always looked crowded. With a line out the door, we got a table in less than 5 minutes!! The food was absolutely delicious!!! I had a veggie burger and my boyfriend had the veggie chili that was the best I've ever had. The service was awesome, I never had an empty glass and everyone smiled as the entire staff seemed to wait on everyone. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a fast and friendly meal!! Pros: Service, food, cheap!!! Cons: parking, you may have to park along the street more

Great Chili, Great Service 2/28/2008

If you are looking for the most amazing bowl of chili you will ever eat go to Lupies! The service is fantastic as well! more

the best chili in town! 1/26/2008

I ate at Lupie's a few weeks ago for lunch for the first time, it was fabulous. Nice people, reasonable prices, and the best chili I've ever had. My husband got the Cincinnati chili which was a little sweeter, and equally delicious. Look out for it while driving by or you'll miss it. Park around back. Pros: authentic fare Cons: odd location more

Lupies is a winner! 6/1/2007

I've known Lupie my whole life. She started as a kitchen worker at another little hole in the wall place on 7th street. She opened Lupies and it's been fantastic ever since. My favorite is the veggie plate - a salad with really yummy italian dressing, mac & cheese (and I don't usually like mac & cheese) and pinto beans with onions all served with cornbread and sweet tea... it just doesn't get any better than that! I highly recommend Lupies to anyone :-) Pros: friendly, fast service Cons: can be kinda noisy more

Chili was salty 11/5/2006

I have been to Lupie's in the past, but the most recent time, the chili was salty. Too salty to eat. The nachos were tasty & served up fast. I may have to give the chili a chance again, since I've never had it like that before. more

Great place! 1/6/2006

Good food for a quite reasonable place. The wating staff is awsome. The two boys who wait tables al night are the cutest and friendly with the gays. more

Awful Chili 12/4/2005

I had heard about how great the chili/chilimac was at Lupie's was so I decided to try it one night for dinner. Honestly it was some of the worst food I have ever had at a restaurant and I have eaten at some sketchy places. Maybe the burgers are good but DO NOT order the chili. Pros: Relatively Cheap Cons: Food, Service more

Yum, Yum, Yummy 9/20/2005

mvopsu must not be from the area. Lupie's has the best veggie plate around. The Mac and cheese rocks! Can't beat the laid back attitude from the staff and patrons! Pros: Inexpensive, Easy to find Cons: sometimes crowded more
