Setting is always interesting, great people watching. The restaurant is very modern, very chic, looks like the kind of restaurant you would find in the tv series Sex and the City. Some of the meals on the menu are a little out there. Can be a little pricey. Great place to take out of towners, people that are looking for a really fun cool night. Not a good place for children or laid back home cooked meal. more

I recently visited Luma on Park Avenue with my boyfriend. it was date night and we wanted to try a new place. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. Not too hoity-toity like a lot of places in WP. We were seated at a 2 person table near the kitchen. We could see the chef and staff working, which was fun. Not too noisy and great service. Our waitress was very helpful and informative, especially when she discovered it was our first visit. She explained the menu, the fresh ingredients and local favorites. I enjoyed their 3 course prix fixe menu for only $35, including a glass of wine. My boyfriend ordered a yummy steak with a glass of wine. Overall we both enjoyed our experience and look forward to returning soon. more

The decor and appearance of the restaurant is beautiful, and it looks lik a chic restaurant from one of the big cities. The food is quite good, as well. Unfortunately it is staffed with small-minded, overly pretentious employees, that seem to know very little about fine dining or a true dining experience. This restaurant provided excellent food, but really below average service, timing, and attention to detail, and an uninformed or uncaring seeming staff. I have been to Luma twice and had twocompletely different experiences. The first time my husband and I went, we had fantastic service and the food was fabulous. The second time, the service was completely lousy. In fact, our waiter came to our table, introduce himself and never came back. It was until I had said something to another staffer, that we actually got some service. The good news is that the food is great. If I would have written this review after our first experience, I would have given five stars, but b/c of our second experience, I gave it only three. I will try Luma again. more

I've given Luma a couple of tries but have always come away disappointed. There are three other restaurants on/near Park Ave that are much better. Luma is one of those corporate investment that's mainly style over substance. It seems the owners calculated a theme and formula that's supposed to maximize the ego. It's a classic marketing restaurant, all sizzle, little substance. While this formula has resulted in a popular restaurant, it's not because the food or wine is particularity good. The menu is imaginative, but that's the ?style?. The wine list is extensive, but that's part of the formula. However, neither the food, wine or service is as good as you can get within walking distance of Luma. It's not even a particulate beautiful setting, but I'm sure they spent lots of money on it. Do yourself a favor and visit three much more rewarding restaurants nearby: Cafe Du France on Park Ave, 2 blocks to the South; Chez Vincent on New England, 3 blocks to the West, and my favorite, Jardins, two blocks to the North on Park Ave. Ok, they are have French names, but they are welcoming and easy, and make a night on beautiful Park Ave much more enjoyable and delicious.
