Luby's

Due to a close family illness/death right before a Thanksgiving holiday several yrs. ago, I called Luby's to order a complete holiday dinner, cooked & ready to serve for our families since the families did not feel like cooking. Odering the Thanksgiving dinner over the phone, picking the dinner up & serving the dinner was so easy compared to days/weeks of cooking for the holidays. The Christmas holidays came around that year so quick, I did the same procedure. I have done this for five (5) years now, twice per year and have never had any thing except good service when ordering, attentive attention when picking up the complete holiday meal and the comments I receive from our holiday guests re: the delicious food is well worth a few extra dollars (or even comparable to what I spent on preparing/cooking all the food as done in the years before Luby's). The turkey/homemade dressing are moist, tender & flavorful, along with the homemade giblet gravy, oh & the cranberry sauce. The two pies which came with the holiday feast were large & homemade. Luby's actually allows me to switch out pies when ordering, since the family does not like pumpkin/pecan pies. Of course you can order extras, as I do, of all the food, rolls, or whatever else the family enjoys. Just thought I would mention this in case other families ever need/want this service. Pros: Good food. Dine in - no clean up. Choose amount & what food you eat. Cons: Cafeteria food, as I had known it, is getting pricey, I think. more

There was a time when eating cafeteria food was fun. This time was called college. We did things like eat in cafeterias in college, but we also did things like run miles with no clothes on and wear the same pair of jeans for 5 days straight. But then we grow older and move onto better things. Like $200 suits form JC Penneys and dinners at Applebees. But the folks at Luby's and the Texas locals whom dine there must have missed the boat. This is the only way such an establishment like Luby's can not only stay in business, but maintain a rather strong following. Granted this was Texas which may negate my whole college reference. more

Nothing cheers me up better than Luby's macaroni & cheese! Some of the items can be hit or miss, but once you find something you like, stick with it. My favorite is a Luann platter with fish almondine, fried okra and mac & cheese! The brownie pie is also delicious. more
