Unbelievably Horrible 3/1/2011

This is, without hesitation, the worst doctor's office I have ever been to in my entire life. Their numerous failures are so bad it would be laughable were it not for the fact that these are people are in the business of healthcare. The worst part of this practice is, in a word, Jualeah. She is unbelievably rude, dismissive, horrific bedside manner, will talk over you and will NOT listen to you, even if you are trying to express relevant information to assist with a diagnosis, and her medical knowledge seems to be sorely lacking. She arrogantly rushes to a diagnosis based on assumptions without allowing you to explain symptoms and both times she was responsible for diagnosing me she wrote it off as something minor and was wrong; the second time she almost cost me my life. I am SO glad I realized she was obviously bad at her job and sought a second opinion, because when I did, I was sent to surgery the same day. Jualeah sent me home. I saw a variety of other doctors and all of the midwives and most were so-so to poor, with the exception of Carrie (midwife) and Dr. Hunter was also okay, although she advocated some outdated obstetrical recommendations. I NEVER had an appointment where I was seen within 25 minutes of my appointment, and I have waited over an hour just to be called back more than once. Once you're back there, prepare to sit around naked for another 20 minutes or more. I suppose my time is not as valuable as my money. Scheduling a follow-up appointment appears to be rocket science as 9 times out of 10, it takes three minutes and more than one person staring at a computer screen with furrowed brows to figure out when to schedule me. Between this and the consistent unreasonably long wait times, it's apparent they have a serious issue with scheduling and managing patients. The bathrooms are usually really icky with trash all over the floor and look like they need a good cleaning. More than once when I went to deposit my urine specimen in the window, there was already someone else's pee sitting in a cup in there that they hadn't bothered to do anything about. I'm sorry, I'm from a big city where medical professionals are good at what they do, listen to the patient, and then make a proper diagnosis. This place is majorly amateur in terms of the quality of care you receive. I'm not okay with bottom-of-the-barrel doctors and staff, but if you are, have at it. I'll never set foot in there again. more

Take The Bad With The Good 4/14/2009

Ok, I just moved here from out of state not too long ago and started seeing Dr. Accetta. I thought he was wonderful until he told me that a midwife would be delivering me unless I had complications or needed a c-section. This really bothered me, my whole life I've been going to a one doctor practice. He assured me I could see him at every visit, but I thought, why would I want to do that and meet a complete stranger at the hospital when I deliver? Anywho, one of my appointments got rescheduled and they set me up to see the midwife Bridget. Bridget was amazing! Unlike any doctor I had ever been to before, even the one that I had been seeing since I was 15. She was so sensitive to my needs and really spent alot of time with me. I felt like she actually cared. After seeing her, my next appointment was with Dr. Heinemann. I ended up getting hospitalized during this visit for complications but she was awesome as well. So much more gentler than Dr. Accetta and she never once made me feel like I was going to be pawned off to the next Dr. Now when I was at the hospital, I saw her, Bridget, and Dr. Givens who I'm assuming was the one on call. He was also very nice. My last couple appointments have been with Dr. Heinemann and once with the midwife Gretchen because Dr. Heinemann was at the hospital preforming emergency c-sections. I also adore Gretchen. I will be delivering soon, and I'm really hoping that Dr. Heinemann is there, but now that I've met Gretchen adn Bridget, I wont be disappointed if I have to be delivered by them. I guess for a huge practice, this small town girl gives them a thumbs up! Pros: Most of the docs seem to really care. Great medical treatmen Cons: Long waits in the lobby, rude checkout staff, rude nurses more

I do not recommend 11/23/2008

When I was pregnant, I went to Lowcountry Women's Specialits for all of my prenatal care. However, I did not see a doctor even one time. I always saw midwives. They say the doctors see all of the high-risk pregnancies. Well, what is considered high-risk? I had preeclampsia and for the greater part of my pregnancy I was having to go once a month to MUSC for ultrasounds because of possible abnormalities of my baby (none of which occurred thankfully). I don't have a problem with seeing a midwife, but I saw a different midwife everytime. I wanted to go to the same person each time so they would know more about me. I requested to continue to see the same midwife but was told that even if I saw the same midwife throughout my entire pregnancy, the baby would be delivered by the midwife on call, no matter who it was. So I tried to get to know each midwife by seeing them all thoughout my pregnancy. I liked them all except for two of them. One midwife in particular, and I don't want to name names, was very rude and laughed at me when I asked her a question. And my first visit with her, she wrote down that I was on Medicaid without even checking, I guess because I am young she assumed I'm unmarried and on Medicaid. (I was on my husband's insurance, not Medicaid).Another midwife checked my baby's heartrate with the fetal monitor and then said "ok that's all today" and walked out of the room--she didn't even say "hi" or "bye" or anything! Then at the end of my pregnancy, the same midwife saw that my b. pressure was 145 over 92, and said not to worry because they "only care when the top number is over 145, not right at 145, and never care about the bottom number". I asked my primary care physician about that and he said that was a very dangerous way to think about b. pressure, especially in a woman who is overdue. The next day I was back at LCWS and a nicer midwife who was at the office that day had me admitted to the hospital to be induced due to preeclampsia. Pros: Nice office staff, some midwives are nice Cons: Long waiting time, some midwives are very rude with no beside manner more

Low service rating 5/15/2008

Had a few glitches with the service at first but after discussing it with a couple of people in charge am optimistic about future visits. Pros: quality medical care Cons: long wait, poor service, low empathy more

Best doctor I have ever met 10/14/2006

Doctor Givens is the best doctor that I have ever met. He is a very compassionate doctor. He takes great care of his patients and is always there to help no matter when it is. He is one of my favorite doctors because he has done anything he could to help. When I started to recommend Dr. Givens I found out that he is a very well known doctor and he very liked. Every time my husband see someone who is pregnant he always tells them, " Go see Dr. Givens" and tells them and their husbands how great of a doctor he is more
