On the recommendation of several reviews and the fact that Louie Mueller's is supposed to be one of the top 25 BBQ places in the world, I decided to make the detour off of I-35 an...

Old Time Atmosphere 8/8/2002

On an average day, the brisket at Louie Muellers is tender and juicy. All the fixings are available from the counter. Seat yourself, but you might want to sit by big sliding door in the summer time. They don't have AC and the pits are inside, so it can get pretty hot. Pros: Great Food Cons: No A/C more

Real BBQ 8/7/2002

Yes, County Line is consistant. Yes, Stubbs has live music and fairly good food. But for the real bbq experience, you cant beat Luie's. First off, it's on the main street of a little town, second the white-washed building, third, THE WALLS (black with smoke) and most important, wonderful bbq and great sides. This place is so worth the short drive. Pros: great meats, super sides, friendly service Cons: bit of a drive more

Great Food, Service and Atmosphere 7/31/2002

Great flavor and very moist barbecue. The atmosphere. to me, make the meal more enjoyable with the odor of smoke and meat. I try to make it to Taylor as often as possible and always at lunch to have brisket and sausage. more

Just about the best 5/15/2002

One of the small handful of establishments that have faithfully preserved the tradition of Texas barbecues. Smoky inside, and welcome shade in the summer, Mueller's is a fond memory of Central Texas. Way too long since I've settled in on sausage and brisket at Mueller's. Pros: BBQ exemplar Cons: Too far from L.A. more

  • Louie Mueller Barbecue has been described as a cathedral of smoke due to producing the finest BBQ in all of Texas since the restaurant opened its doors in 1949. Founder Louie Mueller handed over the reins to his son Bobby in 1974, who ran the smoker for over three decades before his son (third generation owner/pitmaster) Wayne Mueller took control in 2007. It was also around this time that the Central Texas BBQ restaurant was honored by the James Beard Foundation with an American Classics award, an honor given only to our nation's most beloved and best regional restaurants.
