If you're not a female who loves to shop in department stores, this is not your place to shop. It is like a clone of Bloomingdale's and Macy's, except for one thing: there is almost no unique merchandise. The clerks are very helpful though. The cashiers are very personable and friendly. My relative was advised against buying a $50 outfit by a cashier because the cashier noticed that the sleeves were too big for her. That's service. How many salespeople will tell you NOT to buy something? It's the service that allows me to give the place a three star rating and not a two star.
This store is located in the Plaza, near Neiman Marcus. But trust me, they are not of the same caliber. Lord & Taylor has expensive perfumes, jewelry, handbags, and lots of clothes. No housewares here. They mostly sell womens' apparel, like most department stores. I think the store design is quite pretentious. Everything is locked up behind a counter. Of course, most counters are left unstaffed. That being said, I think Lord & Taylor is still pretty nicely decorated and their clearance sales are good. If you are into brand names, the clothes go on big sales. Look out for shopping passes in the New York Times and the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Lastly, I do want to note that the clothes here are geared for older customers. This is your grandpa's shop, not your teenage son's.
