Looking Good Grooming

Took my little Yorkie there 3 years ago for his first nail clipping, the woman cut 4 nails too short, they were bleeding and he screamed his head off. Why would I go again...? Well, major lapse in judgment. Friend recommended them recently for grooming and driving by today, 8-21-2010 I really thought this would not happen again. The same woman was there and I asked her to be careful so she would not cut too short as I got him finally to a point where nail clipping is no longer a struggle. The first front paw was ok, she was doing it so quick I was wondering how she knows without checking how far she can cut. Unfortunately while doing his second paw she literally cut half of the third nail off, blood spurted out, he cried, she went quickly for the powder to stop the bleeding. Needless to say I did not let her finish and stormed out of there saying "never again". She did not even say that she is sorry... I will never go back again. Cutting too close to the quick can happen to anybody, it happened to me too when I used to trim my lab's nails. But whacking off half of a little dog's nail is just plain careless. I really believe the reason they are still in business is that the pets can't talk and if you are not there you never know what goes on. more

My recent experience at Looking Good was HORRIBLE! I had my long-haired my cat groomed here for the first (and last) time. First of all, there were dogs everywhere in the room, yipping, barking etc., some kenneled and one large dog leashed near the cat's grooming table. To quiet the barking dogs, the groomer kicked the dog cages! Then, to groom my cat she yanked him up to the table repeatedly BY THE TAIL, as if it were a handle -- and this is a big cat, being yanked up by his full body weight from the tail when he tried to leave (the groomer's manhandling *and* the dogs made my cat skittish). The more upset my cat got, the more she dragged him around on the table--by the tail, the hind foot, whatever. This "groomer" was insane. She needs an assistant, animal handling knowledge--or maybe she just needs to be closed down! If a cat is difficult to groom, refuse to work on the cat or get some assistance -- don't abuse the animal! Unfortunately, the incident happened when there was a large (leashed) dog between myself and the grooming table, and I hesitated too much to intervene. We *did* ask her to stop her behavior, but she ignored us completely. Everything happened so quickly, I wish in hindsight I had the presence of mind to run over and get my cat away from her but I was horrified and frozen in shock. My cat and I were both traumatized by this incident! Needless to say, we will never return. more

We have one very skittish, xenophobic cat, Mia. My fiance mostly raised her, and he raised her in the same loving way he raised his other cat, but somehow Mia always seemed to be much more skittish and very suspicious of people's best intentions even to pet her. She's a long haired cat who had some bad knots and tangled hair - my fiance was convinced we needed to shave her (she would become very scratchy when he tried to comb her knots). Not only did she say Mia gave her no trouble, she shampooed Mia and combed out all the tangled knots, so she didn't have to be shaved! I don't know how she did it, but Mia came out smelling nice, shiny haired, with a cute bandana around her neck, calm and happy :-) Needless to say, without all the knotted hair tugging her skin, Mia is a much happier cat now. So worth $40+tip we paid. If your cat/dog is also scratchy, they also cut nails for $5, and/or apply Soft Claws http://www.softclaws.com/ for $20, I think.
