Longs Drugs

I don't know why Longs has to be so mean and have a great nursery. I never want to shop there again, but the plants call to me. The rest of the store is awful. Sure, they're huge and they're bound to have something you need and ten things you want. But if what you buy breaks or is a bad product, it's like pulling teeth to return it. Their return policy is basically worded so that they don't have to accept ANY returns, even with receipt - although having your receipt is your best weapon. A lot of the stuff in the store is unreturnable, unbeknownst to the customers. The staff are underpaid and undervalued and don't know a darn thing about what products they sell or where the products might be or which ones are better for your needs. It's just a big, fluorescent-lit, faceless, unfriendly big box store selling things that you could get better elsewhere - but if you shop at Longs, you'll never find that out. more

The Nursery Department in the Long's on Broadway is one of the best sources for plants in the East Bay. They have a great and changing selection of california natives, trees, annuals, veggies and herbs, and everything else you could hope for from your nursery. As an added bonus, the prices of the plants are very reasonable and their indoor garden center has a great selection of all the non-living stuff you need for your yard. Be warned though, there is every chance you will be in line behind someone buying 6 bags of bull manure and, my friends, it does NOT smell good. more
