Board here if your dog is just a dog 8/4/2009

We were desperate to find a boarder last minute because our normal facility was full, that was the only reason we boarded our pugs at Locust Run. Unless it was an emergency situation and NOTHING else is available, I will not board here again. Our pugs are like our children, and if this is how you feel about your dogs, this is not the facility for you. Our dogs weren't injured while they were here, but they did not receive the personalized attention available at other locations. I did not like that the "yard" was full of rocks (perhaps where some of the reviewer's dogs got their cuts?) and it looks like a prison cell. Also, our pugs all came back with fleas. Realizing there is the risk of this in all boarding situations, I've boarded several times in many different locations where there was more interaction with other dogs and NEVER have my dogs come back infested with fleas. The price is right, but I could not with clear conscience leave my dogs here again. Board here if your dogs are more

Locust Run Kennels is HORRIBLE 7/18/2009

DO NOT BOARD HERE: I'll never take my dogs there again. My puppy had a huge gash on her leg when I picked her up. $700 dollar emergency visit. My blog post, with pictures, here: http://squillacescribbles.blogspot.com/ more

Good Place to Board 6/3/2009

I have taken my dogs to Locust Run Kennels for the past four years and have never encountered any problems. Of course, when you pick them up they smell more "doggy" than at home, but that is to be expected. My daughter takes her lab there also, and he is an aggressive dog when he is caged up, but they always accommodate him and just know what to expect. He never eats when he is there, but that is just because of his disposition and he usually does lose weight; but he is fine when he returns home. I think for the price they are great. I have taken my dogs there for as long as a week and as short as two days, and I don't worry about them at all when I am gone. If you believe your animals need more attention than Locust Run gives, then you will just have to take them to a more expensive kennel. more

Never A Problem 4/17/2009

We have been taking our dog to Locust Run for 3 years now and never had a problem. The only reason I wouldn't give them a 5 star rating is because the dogs don't get any personal attention.\r However we have had a bad experience with another kennel, not in this area but we know the difference! Our dog comes home from Locust Run, clean, alert, and just the way she went in. We have left her there for overnight stays and for 10 day vacation stays and never a problem.\r If you're looking for the pampered dog kennel you'll have to pay double for it and we did when we first moved here. We found that our dog came home the same way from either kennel.\r Never had a problem or even a hint of a problem at Locust Run! more

I agree 4/2/2009

We have been taking our dogs to Locust Run for years and have never had a problem. Large individual runs, clean, reasonable prices, and they care. No complaints from friends who take their dogs here either. We moved, yet we drive a hour out of our way to still take our dog to Locust Run.JC more

Clean Kennel 2/3/2009

I have to say that I strongly disagree with the negative reviews written below. I took my dog to Locust Run in the fall of 08'. I discovered this kennel through other positive reviews from my co-workers. After adopting my dog in July, I wanted to take my dog to a kennel that was reasonably priced yet provided excellent boarding. When I dropped my dog off, I walked through several kennels, they all seemed very clean and were practically odorless! The staff that cared for him seemed very organized and were attentive to any of my dog's extra needs. I requested to have him bathed before picking him up and they did a fantastic job with his bath. I will be taking him back for another visit later in February and expect to have another wonderful experience. more

Very disappointed 10/20/2008

We have used Locust Run for a number of years and had mixed feelings. Our dogs always got visibly scared when we entered and were not themselves when we would come to pick them up. Then this past July we boarded our dogs again for a few days. When we came to pick up our dogs one had a deep gash in its foot. The owner said he placed horse sauve on it and that he had seen worse wounds on horses. We took the dog immediately to our vet who placed her in emergency surgey. Our dog suffered there for several days before she got the attention she needed. NEVER AGAIN will we use this kennel. more

Excellent Place 10/7/2008

I would recommend Locust Run to anyone, I have been taking my dogs there over the past 15 years and they have always provided excellent service. Locust Run has always taken the extra time to provide my dogs with any medication they made need, even when it required putting the pills in peanut butter and bread. When I used to have an arthritic Dalmatian they took extra care to help him up and down as he needed it. They have sturdy kennels that are hands free, so if there is an aggressive or nervous dog it will get the same treatment as a regular boarder. Locust Run recently remodeled several buildings also, which may explain some previous postings of dissatisfaction. I have not noticed any filth anytime that I have picked up my dogs there. However people should remember this is a boarding facility not a luxury resort and it is not their responsibility to bath the animals unless requested. They have convenient hours and reasonable prices for boarding in York County. Working in the Veteri more

Not a good place to board your best friend. 8/21/2008

We had boarded at this facility before, but it seems they have grown too big to take good care of their charges.\r Our last experience was not good. The attendant who took my dog in did not respond to a request I made at all. They promised to move my dog to another kennel, away from a nasty growling dog, they had plenty of room, and didn't. Never again. more

can't recommend 8/16/2008

Sorry, I can not recommend this facility. I am very active in dog rescue and recently picked up 5 dogs that were being turned over to our rescue. I was surprised at the poor condition of the kennels. One of the dogs we picked up had an injury due to a wire sticking down at the inside/outside door and it put a fairly deep scratch in her. The longer Locust Run is in business the worse they get. I would never use them for my own dogs. more

Never Again! 7/17/2008

We boarded our two dogs there last year for 6 days while we went on vacation. While on vacation we called to check on the dogs. They always quickly replied "they're doing fine".\r However when we returned home to pick our dogs up, our 10 year old lab was visibly ill. He had lost nearly 10 lbs while we were away. The afternoon we brought him home he was vomiting large amounts, not to mention, both dogs were filthy beyond belief. How much must he have been vomiting to lose 10 lbs while we were gone and no one noticed!\r The next day we took him to our vet. Eventually two days later he was diagnosed with pancreatitis. It cost us over $2000.oo to restore him to health. This could have been brought under control much easier had they even bothered to notice that our pet was ill. \r The first thing my eight year old sons said when they saw him after vacation was "look how skinny and sick he looks."..While I do not blame them for the illness. I do blame them for their lack of even notici more

Friendly Pet-Hotel! 2/13/2008

We've been taking our dogs to Locust Run for years. The prices are reasonable, and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. The place is very clean, and dogs can go in and out as they please during the day. We like that they will give the dogs a bath before we pick them up, so they don't go home smelling like they've been in a kennel for a week. more
