Lippera's Restaurant-Chatham

My family have tried Lippera's a number of times because of the great atmosphere! Each time either in the tavern or restaurant the service has been very slow! One time half our party received our food ten minutes before the rest. Another time we gave our server $200.00 and were waiting for change, when the server said she never received all the money. Can't believe how great this place is. Wife and were up for Film columbia--the local film festival every October (saw Babel-loved it!) Well, this place has it all! 4 Floors, a great HUGE wine cellar/bar. The tavern on the main floor served me the best pizza I've had outside of NYC.The restaurant, where we ate the night before, was so good. Handmade Canneloni (Butternut Squash-yum!), Wife had Crab-Enrusted Filet-Superb. Shared Country Pate (like Foie Gras without the residual guilt) and Fig Salad (Old Chatham Sheepherders Cheese!) Valrhona Cake and Creme Brulee with the deepest coffee I've had outside of a Starbucks rounded it all out. We finished up by checking out the photo gallery and shops on the 2nd/3rd floors. (lol--during lunch the next day I even grabbed a haircut on the top floor.) Pros: NYC Quality/Small Town Atmosphere/Zero Pretense! My husband and I were visiting relatives in upstate New York and we're from Los Angeles. Their neightbors suggested we try Lippera's. We were saying what foodies we were and how good the restaurant's in Los Angeles were these days. Well, I have to say that Lippera's is a masterpiece. From the moment we arrived we were thrilled. The entire ambiance, charm, service and most incredibly ...the food. Delicious succulent steaks, a fantastic wine list, amazing desserts. We even came back on Sunday for their brunch...what a treat. It's so wonderful to see such a talented family create such a gem! Thank you Lippera's...just for being! Pros: The ambiance of this landmark is incredible...food and service exceptional. City quality, country attitude (or complete lack thereof). Two equally-good restaurants here. Tavern side with giant burgers, warm salads, homemade potato chips, homemade gingerales or ginger ice teas. Fresh Mojitos. Can't say enough about the reasonably priced, fresh-fast food! The other side, Lipperas', is fantastic fine-dining using all the local ingredients available (menu states greens from Little Seed Garden and cheese from the nationally-known Old Chatham Sheepherder's. Probably costs them more but their insistence on quality makes it to the plate, to be sure! Crab-Encrusted Filet, Veggie Lasagna with Old Chatham Ricotta, the biggest Pork Milanese topped with a Caprese salad I ever had! Incredible food. We were thrilled to sit on the upstairs porch on swings with our after-dinner drinks. What a great experience. With Mac-Haydn theatre in Chatham, Theatre Barn in New Lebonen and the Ghent Playhouse down the street in the winter, dinner and a show in the sleepy hamlet matches anything we see or eat in the city during the week!
