Remembering Linicks Toy Store 12/5/2011

I will always remember getting my father to take me down to Linicks for the latest Barbie Doll, Barbie outfit or accessory. I got my very first Barbie at Linicks in 1962. I was 4 years old. I could remember the smell of the store; it was a slightly musty smell with a big hit of ""New Toy "" smell. I can remember being relentless once I had my Dad on the hook!!! Lol! Next was to figure out just how much I was going to get him to spend. I am so sure it was an adventure for him as well as it was for me. When he saw the glimmer in my eyes he knew he was in for it; the begging soon ensued. That is when the fun really began!! I am sure that is when Mr. Linick saw some of the best ""Oscar"" winning performances from the neighborhood kids. The truth was, if Dad couldn't afford it then, it would surely be under the tree at Christmas. Some of, or should I say ""MOST"" of my childhood memories arose from the cool stuff I got from Linicks. I remember Linicks to be the same way, perhaps a couple of storefronts and storage off premisis seeing todays large demand. Those days life was simple and splendid. We would leave Linicks with a smile on our faces and a song in our hearts. We would put the toy in the trunk of the car and the go to the Italian Pizzaria next door for a Sicilian slice and a soda, and then off to home to play Monopoly, or Life, or Cootie, Creepy Crawlers, Chatty Kathy, The Flintsones Building Blocks, Silly Putty, checkers, chineese checkers....my, my, my what a wonderful life!!! Now, I live in rural Washington State, and I am hard pressed to find a Mom and Pop toy store. I will always remember Mr Linick and his store piled high to the cieling with every possible classic and popular toy available. Thanks so much to my Dad who made my childhood a wonderland of joy and excitement!!! I'll be stopping into Linicks next time I visit NYC.\r Happy Holidays!!!! more
