Linda's Alterations & Cleaners

\r Today is Saturday, 9/21/2013. I just left Linda s Alterations. I must say this has been the most uncomfortable and insulting experience I have experience with a company that provides a service in many years. I am not sure if there was a language barrier and a racial bias, that I experienced. However, Linda was condescending and rude when I attempted to explain to her what I wanted. First she says I can not do that for a big girl ( I am a size 8); I did not take offense, I believe she may just be uneducated and unable to verbalize her thoughts better; Then she says, you can not afford what you are asking for ( clean up jagged waist for dresses that I cut into skirt); She tell me I am being agressive because I was attempting to explain to her in the soft, calm and mild tone even after the continued insults, again, I tried to ignore because there might be a language barrier. I say all of this to conclude that I was told that she ruined a pair of pants of someone whom has lived in Woodlake for many years. After much, thought I decided to take a chance as I am unfamiliar or unaware of any other alteration shops in the area. So, I communicated this to her after she continued to be rude and insulting but softly. Nevertheless, I went there with a very open dispostion of hope that maybe if I explained to her and asked for suggestions to ascertain the final product I desired, then the experience would be positive. This I communicated to her. \r Finally, a light bulb went off in my head that Linda do not want my business and if she did provide me a service she would OVERCHARGE and be INSULTING in hopes that I may not come back.\r \r **** I have traveled and lived in several countries; so I do not experience racial prejudice or undertones often, but I will say that you know it when you FEEL it or hit you in the face. So, I will say to ANYONE who is NOT White American or Asian this may not be the place you should patronize.**** I do plan to send a copy of this letter to the Westchase Chamber of Commerce.\r \r I went to Best Cleaners and spoke to the person who does the alterations and the conversation was brief and very nice. He charged 50%less than Linda s Alterations. more

Amazing!!!!! Linda is extraordinary at what she does. I brought pants, dress shirts, and a dress all to be taken in and hemmed. When I picked them up and tried them on, I was amazed at how fantastic my clothes looked. I don more

I have had several cocktail dresses altered at Linda's and most recently, a bridesmaid dress that had a complicated pattern with pleats and a lot of excess fabric. She reset the zipper and re-patterned the pleats to lay exactly how I wanted! The alterations came out perfectly and she knew just how to tailor the dress to fit my body! Very professional and courteous and done in a timely manner! I would HIGHLY recommend Linda's and will go there for all my alteration and tailoring needs! more

Took my wedding gown and my mother's formal gown to get dry-cleaned. Shockingly horrible service! They put both dresses into a machine instead of doing them by hand - this caused a lot of stitching on my wedding dress to come off!!! My mother's dress came back with stains that were not on the dress before. Moreover, they refused to even acknowledge these mistakes, and were very rude, going to the point of throwing us out of their store, saying ""We will never do business with you again"". I later found out that they do not use filters to clean the dry-cleaning fluid before re-using it, and that is why my mother's dress came back with stains. It is called ""deposition"", and it is basically the dirt from other clothes they washed in dirty dry-cleaning fluid. This is unacceptable! I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially not anyone looking to clean their wedding or formal gowns. Also, I would make sure that they even have a permit to buy dry-cleaning fluid (it should be displayed on the front of the store). more

I usually don?t write reviews but I was so impressed with Ann at Linda?s Alterations. I have had a terrible experience with Mr. Santos in the Galleria area that I was too scared to look for anyone else. What a relief when I came across her business. From the moment I walked in Ann greeted me with sincere kindness and understanding what I needed done to my dress and even offered suggestions to make it even more beautiful. I was shocked when she told me the price. I was charged 4X that at Mr. Santos and she's doing twice the work on my dress. Thank you. more

Ann is the owner now of Linda's alterations in Woodlake Square, and she is lovely and talented. She has altered many things or me, and I am pleased with them all. I am very pickey about how things are done since I sewed myself for many years. Ann is willing to listen to what I want done, and she sews really well. I would recommend her to anyone in the area looking to have alteratios done. more

I just picked up my first batch of clothes that were altered by Linda and am really pleased! The work included jeans that needed hemming (original hem), various tops that needed hems or slimming, a long dress that needed hemming and a bustier that was too big. They all came out great, and the pricing was very reasonable. more

Linda is the BEST seamstress, especially if you are looking for wedding gown alterations. I had a very complicated dress (Maggie Sottero's Rhianna Royale), and I wanted a variety of things done to it, including a bustle, taking the neckline to a sweetheart shape, hemming the skirt and reshaping the skirt into a mermaid shape. Linda did all of this with such a sunny attitude and with tremendous skill! My dress looks better than I ever dreamed it could, and she did it for a fraction of the price that I would have paid at an upscale boutique. She definitely knows what she is doing, and she is one of the warmest and friendliest people around. Don't let the fact that her shop also functions as a dry cleaners deter you from using her for your seamstress needs. Her favorite thing to do is to alter wedding dresses, and she is one of the most meticulous seamstresses I've ever encountered! I couldn't be happier with Linda's services and will be recommending her to all of my friends in the future!! more

I've been to several alterations in Houston, and never thought I would find one that Rocks like Linda's Alterations! I am so picky with my clothes and they are the best.. Everyone must go and see for themselves, the staff are so friendly, easy going, funny, and most of all trustworthy when they have your clothes! No one can beat their prices, (the best) over all. She has one employee that I always ask for when I come in, her name is ""Ann"" she is such an artist when it comes to alterations, very patient, the best I have ever delt with in Texas!! If anyone is looking for a friendly smile, they must go to Linda's Alterations! more

I moved to Houston for about half a year and have changed three tailors: the one at the Galleria was too expensive and others didn't do a good job. I was so happy that I found Linda's. The best combination of price and quality so far. And the warmest of the owner there is a plus. She knows the customers by name. The first time I went back to pick my clothes, I didn't even have to give her my tickets. I admit that I'm a picky person - half a inch matters sometimes. However, I was very satisfied with their job for both times I were there. The skirt and dress they worked on are flattering. I found them through this website and I agree the previous review that the ppl there took time to measure and to listen to how you want the clothes to fit. That is very important to me. I also tried their dry clean. Price is great and clothes are well pressed. I'm very pleased with Linda's. Hope they continue with their good work! I bought a dress to Linda's Alterations, the dress were 2 size over and did not fit me. Linda's Alterations altered it to my size. I absolutely trust them with my clothes. They do such a great job! If anyone needs anything done, whether its a simple alteration to a bridal gown, I would suggest you go here. The prices are reasonable, but the quality is second to none. Our family has taken clothes to Linda's Alterations for alterations for more than 20 years. The finished garmets are expertly done and the fit is perfect. Linda's Alterations takes her time to measure your slacks and the sleeve lengths appropriately and to make sure the thread and stitching are perfect . She knows how to take into consideration the one arm that is a little longer or the leg that is a little shorter. She can work with cloth or leather. You won't find a nicer, more caring or more dependable person than Linda. She has a fast turnaround and is very reasonably priced. Linda is teriffic! Pros: Serivce, quality, price more

This lady stained the s*** out of my girlfriends shirt. When I confronted her about it .. politely .... she decided that I was trying to intimidate her b/c I was her boyfriend. I don't remember the whole conversation, as this was a year ago, but she said something along the lines of, ""she sends you in here to intimidate me, you think I make a lot of money, my sister does all the cleaning at her shop, so its not my fault."" well she continued to try and clean it about 8 times and we had asked her just to reimburse us for the shirt. Things got slightly heated and she tried to pull it off like she couldn't understand me, almost as if she didn't understand english at all. Well my girlfriend got a shirt back finally, Lets just say the shirt was white, just like the one she stained, it had buttons, just like the one she stained, ......... but what was really awesome, ........ she used black thread to sew in the old tag on the new white shirt. Who would have thought, Linda is the man. more

I took my clothes there because she was cheap. WHAT A MISTAKE! She hemmed my pants unevenly and ruined some of my clothes. I told her that I shouldn't have to pay and she said ""I don't make much money."" The next week I see her drive up in her E Class Mercedes. She can't alter clothes, she can't dry clean, and she's a LIAR. DON'T GO HERE! more

My family and I have been using Linda's Tailor for years and we highly recommend her. She has helped me with curtains and decor for my children's nurseries, altered my husbands pants and suits, made my children adorable costumes, has provided guidance and assistance with crafts and projects around the house and school, has made and altered beautiful dresses for my nieces prom and flower girl dresses and has helped me through all my different clothing sizes from pre-pregnancy to post-pregnancy. I have been using this place for about 15 years, and they have never failed me! First of all, their prices are much lower than you would pay elsewhere, and they do quality work for the price! Even when I have ideas to make things from scratch (and not just alter them) I bring them the fabric, design, or idea and it's done. Ask for Linda herself or any of her friendly employees. They have worked with her forever and have tons of practice!! more
