I'm sorry to hear BBean had such a bad experience. Regretably, you need to make it past his receptionists' attitudes to see Dr. L. He was able to manage my thyroid when no one else could. He is a good man and has always taken his time to examine and talk to me - not rushed to get in and out as with so many other docs. But he does need to do a clean sweep of his staff. I spoke to a woman there this morning about a prescription refill who was not only nice but seemed to have an IQ above 70 so maybe some of these comments are getting to him and he's making changes. Please give him another try if you are able - he is a good doc and it's hard to find one. more

REPREHENSIBLE TREATMENT 3/30/2011

I cannot speak to the quality of care that Dr. Mervyn Lifschitz provides but I can tell you that, if it is anything like the professionalism that his staff showed to my wife and I after we missed an appointment, he clearly should have his license revoked. Our primary care provider recommended Dr. Lifschitz only because he was closer to us than the other physician she wanted to recommend. But when Dr. Lifschitz could not see my wife in a reasonable amount of time our Dr. recommended that we go the extra distance to see her initial recommendation. The appointment that was made with Dr. Lifschitz was forgotten about in the confusion and while it is true that they made a follow up call to remind us, the call was made to my phone and not my wife's phone and I confused the appointments, thinking that is was not necessary to follow up. Shortly after missing the appointment we received and extremely rude message from a woman in his office. When I called to sort it all out I was met with an amount of smugness and disrespect usually reserved only for those most spiteful bill collectors with zero integrity. To be sure, it eventually came down to money and how they were going to send me a bill for $70 because, ""your missed appointment results in our losing money."" Well I agree you should get paid, but to allow your patients (or, otherwise would be patients) to receive that sort of treatment from your office? Shame on you Dr. Lifschitz; shame on you. more

A gifted doctor and listener. 12/15/2010

I have had ten years of endocrinology issues, and in the course of my illness, seen many doctors. Dr. Lifschitz is the best I have ever seen. He has a deep sense of compassion, incredible listening skills, and good problem solving. The office is old school, not very polished, and not computer friendly. It doesn't matter, because the doctor is worth the lack of sophistication among the office staff. The office staff by the way is competent, just not slick like many high end medical practices. He calls at 7:30 in the morning on Sundays if it is needed to tell me blood results. When I call him with a problem the first thing he dose is acknowledge, ""I am so sorry you are feeling bad."" He works with the patient in a team approach. more

Do not bother calling... 12/1/2010

I called this doctor to schedule an appointment for my daughter and the receptionist was extremely rude! When I said to her, ""apparently you don't want to talk to me, I'll find a different doctor"" her response was, ""wow, aren't we..."" (I couldn't hear the rest because I hung up.) I would strongly suggest that this doctor evaluate his reception staff. I'll be searching for a new endocrinologist. more

Tough to find a new endocrinologist 12/29/2008

Dr Lifschitz is a very nice guy. I do agree however that there i great room for improvement with regard to the courtesy of his staff. And in terms of finding a new endo, I need more than just a nice guy. Pros: Very nice guy; they validate parking Cons: old world; rude staff; questionable medical advice more

Dr Lifschitz is an old-fashioned doctor....for better or worse 5/23/2008

Overall, my son's experience with Dr Lifschitz was positive -- at least during the office visits. He takes his time, asks a lot of questions, and seems to be quite thorough. However...if you want to follow up with him on any topics after you leave the office, you must be a very patient patient! He's not very up-to-date technologically (e.g., no Fax capability, so you can't have previous records or prescription info Faxed, and no email/Web site options). He will call personally with lab results, etc, but you have to be available in the very narrow time window when he makes his calls, which can lead to extended phone tag. On several occasions, I found his staff to be quite rude over the phone. They seem to be irritated that you are calling, they don't volunteer their name, and in one case, I was interrupted 3 times, then hung up on. I eventually changed doctors due to the inconvenience and unfriendly staff. Pros: He's attentive...once you get into the exam room. Cons: Very low-tech (no Fax) and rude staff more
