We had the most AWFUL experienced when we rented the LIC bar carriage house to celebrate our recent wedding. We met with the owner in advance to discuss the event and he seemed pleasant and on board with everything. When we arrived on the day, the place was in a shambles and he had done none of the things he said he would. On top of that, he had a barbeque station set up not 2 feet away from the carriage house that was smoking it out. He didn't answer calls and the staff were no help either. We basically had to do it all ourselves When we wouldn’t pay a service charge of $250 (a fee that incidentally had never been mentioned before) on top of the agreed upon fee, he turned nasty and had his bartender throw us out 3 hours earlier than agreed. The experience was incredibly unprofessional and enormously upsetting for both of us. The actions (and inaction) of the owner and his staff ruined what should have been a lovely and memorable evening. more

This is the best bar for meeting up with your friends. Good Music and plenty of space to sit and you can actually hear what your friends are saying. There are tons of regulars and everyone is really friendly. The bartenders are nice and really take care of you. The back patio is fantastic in the summer. There is a private backroom with a fireplace that you can rent for parties. My favorite thing at this bar is the Thursday night Trivia Quiz! But the photoboth is a close second.\r \r If you have never been, you abosolutely have to check it out and see for yourself. Hmmm...do I give this place a good review? On one hand, I repay the bar for all the great times. On the other hand, I don't want this place over run by hipsters like the Beer Garden...the vertical striped-shirt ex-frat boys won't be far behind.\r \r I've been going to LIC for years, and I always enjoy myself. This place has a great beer and scotch selection. Drinks are inexpensive. The bartenders and crowd are unassuming. In the summers, the patio is a terrific place to hang out. The music is cool too...indie rock, brit pop. A great comfortable bar.\r \r Location wise, I understand why people think it's out of the way. But in context I disagree. It's about 5 blocks from the Vernon-Jackson stop on the 7 train...one stop into Queens. If you were in midtown and wanted to take the subway, you'd get here faster than you could many places downtown.\r \r The first person who didn't like this place should just stay on the upper east side where they belong. They'd be happier, we'd be happier. Everyone wins. Pros: comfortable, inexpensive, good drink selection Cons: I suppose the bathroom is a little small. This is a good unpretentious bar by any standard, and especially appreciated by locals as there isn't a whole lot in the immediate neighborhood. I cannot begin to fathom what that first reviewer is talking about but it's probably better for everyone if that person doesn't return to LIC. Another reviewer described the bar as small, which is not accurate either. It's not huge, but it's quite decent-sized, especially in nice weather when the garden is open. The staff are for the most part very friendly, with the exception of the dark-haired female bartender who can sometimes be rude and surly. I would not describe the corner as ""seedy"" either. The spot is a bit off the beaten path but it's actually a quiet, safe neighborhood. more

I love LIC. Its an awesome neighborhood bar. I love that they have a good tap beer selection. The prices are average, and you can always count on some good conversation. The patio is great in the summer, and the photobooth is a nice touch. more

The food is just ok. Good ingredients but not fast and hot.\r \r The thing to come here for is the Magic Hat #9 and other special brews on tap. Brandywines, etc... and the wonderful atmosphere. This place has been faithfully refurbished to what it was back when. Not a lot of precious details, just everything done right, to last, and to really give you a sense of how long this joint has been here. Plank flooring, slab tables, mish-mosh of chairs, comfortable bar. Lovely collection of vintage and architectural LIC photography. Nice bathrooms!\r \r The back patio is lovely, the place is dark, the ""beer and cordials"" signage on the windows is original and they let you bring your dog in. We've had neighborhood parties there, as well. \r \r Lovely management and nice bartenders. Not trendy, but built to stay for the duration. I love the place. more

I don't know what this other guy is talking about, but I go out of the way specifically for LIC bar. It's a small place on a seedy corner, but when you walk in, it's nice inside, has a great staff, and head out the back door to a great open patio. Pros: Open Patio, Great food / drinks, Photobooth Cons: Out of the way more

If LIC stands for Losers, Idiots, and Criminals then the name certainly fits..... I would recommend giving this a miss.... Pros: ??? more
