In Short
Liberties carries the expected cross-section of pulpy paperbacks, self-help tomes, cookbooks and celebrity biographies, and contemporary fiction is well represented. Sections dedicated to Classics and Philosophy are anemic, but small perks such as the availability of sheet music and ample autographed books help balance the scales. Inspired Art & Photography sections are nice surprises, and a new age CD listening station is a harmless enough way to pass the time. But the real heart of this store lies in its impressive collection of Limited Editions, encased behind glass to avoid any funny stuff. Connoisseurs can drool over the leatherbound Mapplethorpe portfolio ($500), the Signed Limited Edition of Samuel Beckett's Stirrings Still ($1,700), or an ultra-rare 41-volume Limited Edition Collection of Victor Hugo's works ($17,500).
