RUDE. 9/30/2011

The worst rating I can give this place is ""Eh""?! Fine, one star for good coffee and bagels but absolutely, the WORST, SLOWEST service in Queens. Just got back from there and completely infuriated by the staff. Must have had six people working and only two customers in the entire place, but had to wait over 15 minutes for service and no one ever came to take my card when I was ready to pay. Guy who works there was incredibly rude, I did not tip shitty staff and will never go there again. more

Terrible racist owner lady 7/17/2011

The owner is an old racist greek lady who we saw yelling at non-greek customers. The fight started when a group of non-greek customers wanted to gather some tables outside to sit together. The old lady owner started yelling at them and refused. Then she made some racist comments, such as ""we only serve greek people here."" and also told them to go to another cafe down the street. The customers left and angrily called her a b*tch and she called the guy, a ""son of a b""tch"" in front of us and several other customers. Later, we went inside to buy a few pastries and she forced us to take an old, stale looking fruit tart when we wanted the fresh one right behind it. She refused to give us the fresh fruit tart so we declined to buy anything after. This old racist owner obviously forgot that she is in the customer service business and I could NOT believe how she treated her customers. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! more

I THINK THIS PLACE IS EXCELLENT 4/13/2011

THIS PLACE IS EXCELLENT. \r Authentic, fresh, clean, very reasonably priced.\r My parents turned me on to this place when I was looking for a place to take some pastries to clients. \r I was doubtful at first but have been going back ever since. Not only do I think it is excellent and authentic, I've never been treated with anything less than First Class. Ironiocally, I heard through my gossip grapevine that the owner is very generous and charitable to all local causes. Maybe the others that are saying negative things here caught it on a bad day or maybe they are just mistaken.\r more

STAY AWAY 3/26/2011

I AM GREEK. I HAVE LIVED IN ASTORIA ALL MY LIFE AND WOULD GO TO LEFKOS PIRGOS AS A KID. AS I GOT OLDER I REALIZED WHAT A BITCH THE OWNER GIOULI IS. I TRIED TO BRUSH IT OFF BC I LIKED THEIR DESSERTS AND IT WAS CONVENIENT BUT TODAY WAS THE LAST STRAW. MY LITTLE SISTER WAS HELPING ME PROMOTE A FUNDRAISER FOR A CHILDRENS CHARITY. SHE WENT INTO THIS ESTABLISHMENT AND AFTER TELLING THE OWNER ABOUT THE CAUSE SHE ASKED GIOULI THE OWNER, IN GREEK if she could leave some flyers or a poster with her. GIOULI TOLD HER ""I DONT HAVE ROOM, LEAVE! MY SISTER LEFT THE STORE REALLY UPSET. this woman is lucky i didnt go in and give her a piece of my mind. DO NOT GO INTO THIS ESTABLISHMENT, ARTOPOLIS IS A BLOCK AWAY- BETTER PASTRIES, BETTER COFFEE AND BETTER SERVICE- BESIDES REGINA THE OWNER IS A SWEETHEART UNLIKE GIOULI THE BITCH. BITCHKOS PIRGOS-BAD REPRESENTATION OF GREEK COMMUNITY!! more

THE OWNER IS A F-ing CUNx!!!! 9/14/2010

actually, I don't want to rate this place... it's below zero! Once entering the establishment, it almost feels that the workers own you already. NO GREETINGS, no HELLOS, no SMILES! This makes the food unpleasantly tasty, and very bitter. I DON'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. THIS PLACE THIS TO GO DOWN AND BE OFF THE BUSINESS. It's 2010, and the establishment needs to realize how important customer service is. I hope this place shuts down. more

CRAZYYYYY owner 1/22/2010

I hope this bakery closes down because the owner is a crazy lady with really bad attitude. The first time I went -- they were rude, but I thought maybe they were in a bad mood. But today I went again, and they were just rude beyond your imagination. People who work there doesn't greet you at all. The minute you walk in, they demand to know what you want. I wanted to take some time to look at the desserts because I wasn't sure what I wanted -- and they were beyond rude. What kind of people yell at the customers? The owner started packaging my cakes to go without even asking me when I wanted to sit down and eat. So I told her Oh, I want to eat here. And she got pissed. I didn't want to bother with her attitude--so I told her, never mind, I'll just take it to go. And she started YELLING at me..saying ""are you playing a game with me?"" I was just shocked, and I didn't know what to say. It's so not worth going there and deal with their service. I will NEVER come back here ever again Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

Avoid! 10/7/2009

I walk 7 blocks to get my pastry fix rather then the1 block to Lefkos Pirgos. Or as my friends and I call it, Bitchkos Pirgos. I have been in her a dozen times for last minute pasteries for a party or as a treat for my nephews. I have received courteous service once. And I never saw that girl working there after that one time. The staff has made not-so-under-the-breath comments about my friend and his boyfriend as they were walking out. They were rude to my extremely polite and well behaved 4 year old nephews. They have charged me $2 for a piece of chocolate cake and charged my friend $5 for a piece of baklava. They are always slow. It doesn't matter if there is no line, a long line, late, early. They always take at least 10 mins to wrap up one item. Oh. And they took 40 minutes to serve a african-american friend a cup of coffee. There are much better pastry shops. Artopolis a little further down 31st st. if you want exquisite traditional greek and italian breads and pasteries. Martha's on Ditmars for cupcakes, cookies, gelato, cakes and pies. Athen's Cafe on30th ave. for the lounge all day greek cafe experience. Don't got to Lefkos Pirgos! They are awful to everyone who walks through their doors. Pros: a block away, open late Cons: overpriced, awful staff, homophobic, racist more

Worst Exprience Ever 5/10/2009

I was there for an one hour and the waitress didnt even bother to stop by once after she served us to bring coffee or to ask if we needed anything else and i even asked her can i get more coffee which she def ignored. I would never go there again. Cons: Everything more

best relaxing place in Astoria 2/11/2009

very casual and relaxing\r the regulars are very funny, hospitable and educated\r service is NOT the best since the spanish girls do not speak good English\r best time to be there for a drink is late afternoon and noon time at weekends\r excellent place for smokers\r more

WORST B*CHES IN ASTORIA 10/17/2008

The owner thinks she owns everyone in this neighborhood. Not so friendly, though her pastries are not worth the hassle. Part of having good experience in an establishment is not just the food, but the staff members. They don't smile, looks like these girls are on daily PMS! I can't wait for this place to loose business and closed down! Pros: BATHROOM USE: I've used it in the past for some urgent need! Cons: BEEEECHES SERVERS! more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS 6/1/2008

The owner is the worst businesswoman I've ever encountered. I will never step foot in there again. Go across the street to Artopolis - the pastries are much better anyway. Pros: None - I had such a miserable experience Cons: Owner is very obnoxios - examine your bill carefully more

AVOID IT FOR YOUR OWN GOOD 1/17/2008

The food , drinks, etc are ok and sometimes good. BUT the owener is the MEANEST, NASTIEST B**** with the DIRTIEST mouth you may ever hear!! She assults customers, she has even been heard to call the wifes, daughters, mothers of clients w****s ,sluts, skanks--you name it she has said it !!!! She scremas at anyone that gets in her way and the ""F"" seems to be her favorite word. she does not hesitate to tell people to ""F' them selves! ALL this right in the front of the customers!!\r She has even physically assaulted people, the police had to be called she was arrested and charged with assault. This woman has the WORST reputation in Astoria!!! CLEARLY SHE IS DSTURBED AND DERANGED. STAY WAY!!! or YOU TOO WILL FACE the WRATH of this MENTAL CASE!! more

Excellent deserts that you'd be better off taking out to eat elsewhere 4/15/2007

Pros: excellent deserts and pastries, but that's about it.\r Cons: inconsistent service, not the most appealing decor and beware of rude Greek regulars - one stole my quality umbrella while leaving his cheap one behind, the other almost stuck his cigarette into my friend's eye, carelessly chatting with his friends and did not care to apologize! Pros: Great deserts Cons: Rude regulars more

Worst Service Ever 8/2/2006

I stopped in to try some pastry the other day and was leered at by the woman behind the counter, who yelled at me for asking for help, then proceeded to ignore me while she yelled at another customer. Meanwhile the waitresses stood by with disdainful looks on their faces while a few other confused patrons lingered by, waiting for service. I don't care how good the pastries are. NEVER AGAIN! Cons: Horrid Service more

great desserts 4/2/2006

This is the best Greek dessert place. You must order their baklava. Very reasonably priced. It's right off the subway. Pros: inexpensive, great value, great desserts Cons: mediocre service more

The best Greek bakery in NY - and cheap, too! 3/3/2006

Terrific baklava, galaktoboureko, walnut cake, and cookies at ridiculous low prices (at least for those of us used to Manhattan). Atmosphere and service are so-so, though it can be an interesting cultural immersion experience. Pros: The Greek pastries, The Astoria prices Cons: Spartan atmosphere, Spartan service more
