For all you lucky people who don't have food allergies, you probably take waffles for granted, but I have lots, including corn and all corn derived products. Unfortunately, I also crave things contaminated with my kryptonite. Sunday, I was craving a waffle.
I walked into Le Peep and asked for the manager. It was Sunday, about 11am, and despite how busy they were that manager, Brian, was prompt to come talk to me. I explained my food allergy and he immediately went to check ingredients. It was the first waffle I could eat (that wasn't some frozen hippie flax product) in over 5 years. I couldn't have the powdered sugar that goes on top (corn starch keeps the sugar from getting clumpy), but it was fantastic, huge, crisp edges with a soft fluffy middle, served with melted butter and a cup of fruit. The maple syrup contained corn syrup but Brian - without me asking for it - found and brought me some sugar free maple ""flavored"" syrup, but the waffle batter was sweet to start with so I just drizzled some melted butter and I was a happy waffle eating camper!
If you have food allergies I suggest trying Le Peep and talking to a manager. Brian was very accommodating and helpful.
