The BEST French Restaurant ever! 11/7/2008

""Truly the BEST French restaurant I have ever been to. I like that I have the options to have a romantic and secluded dinner inside of the restaurant or I can have a light and very tasty lunch outside. I am new to the marina del rey area but I'm so glad I finally decided to stop by. More often than not, I would walk right past this restaurant on my way to starbucks but starbucks hasn't seen me for a MONTH now. I'm completely hooked on Le Marmiton espressos. The breakfast is light and very European but has some heavy options such as ham for those that prefer meat in the morning. Lindsey was our server and both my husband and I found her very delightful and knowledgable about the menu which was very refreshing. The hostess Aletta was also quite delightful and has a wonderful accent from Spain but pronounces French perfectly. The staff is international so I truly do feel like I'm from France. The executive chef is also from France so you know the food is geniune. The best time for breakfast would probably be Sunday or Saturday. Sitting on the patio was quite romantic for my husband and I. Lunch is great as I always ordered the sandwich, soup and salad combo which is light, healthy conscious but still doesn't leave me starving like most French bistros. Natasha was our server for a romantic anniversary dinner my husband and I had and Aletta our hostess again. Aletta actually remembered it was our anniversary from our last time coming there and so the chef made us a special treat which was so nice. I also loved the large wine list. The staff is excellent the food is the best I have ever had and I'm VERY picky about where I eat. I recommend Le Marmiton for families, single girls and guys or couples. Perfect for everyone and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and happy hour.\r \r They also now DELIVER! Excellent!"" Pros: Food, Ambiance Cons: Didn't notice it before more

Great food, excellent service and great music! 4/5/2008

My wife and I recently moved to Marina del Rey. As we were walking in the shopping center, we noticed a restaurant in the middle section of the shopping center. We gave it a shot and were very nicely surprised by the quality of the service, how good the food is and by the kindness of the two waitresses. My wife and I were amazed by how dedicated to their customers Natacha and Diane were. They will make you feel at home and pay attention to the details that have made our experience at the Marmiton a must. Karim, the chef's partner, will welcome you with warmth and a great sense of humor. His passion for dogs ( he is also a dog trainer and will give you great tips to help you deal with your puppy) makes him a very special person. He is at the restaurant for dinners and the week ends during the day. Check out for the live music on Wednesday with Lila. Very nice ambiance.\r We wish the best for the Marmiton. We are great fans of french cuisine and will certainly support Jean-Marc and Karim who work very hard to make the Marmiton the place to go in the west side. Pros: Food, service, feel at home Cons: Server should get more training for cocktails more

Best Service and excellent food 1/30/2008

I have been going there for a few months but I have never had better service since our last waitress. Her name is Deanne and she is the best thing that has happened to this restaurant. I have been going there once and a while for the food but the attention she will give you is worth more! She is friendly, beautiful and know what is is doing! When you make a reservation... make sure to be sit in her section! Pros: Deanne more

Unimpressive food, extremely bad service 9/20/2007

In short: decent tasting but overpriced food, slim portions, good atmosphere possibly outside? hot/stuffy inside, dumb/ditsy waitress, poor service overall\r Food: I got the Duck L'Orange ($23) and my friend got the Beef Bourguignon ($22). The duck was decent, but not really impressive. I had a forkful of my friends beef, and it seemed kind of tough/rubbery. Both dishes were flavorful, but the portion sizes were noticeably small for the price paid. \r Atmosphere: Nice, clean, kind of romantic, but not too intense. With a candle per table, it felt extremely warm and it was actually quite humid inside (We ate inside, but I would have chosen outside if I could do it again, though it might have been too cold.)\r Service: When I tried to make reservations earlier in the day (weeknight), the guy had difficulty understanding what I was saying. I was born in the U.S. and do not speak with any type of accent; go ahead and read between the lines. So I had to slowly repeat and spell out my last name and recite my phone number a half a dozen times before he said ""okay, thank you"" and hung up the phone. I got a phone call later in the day from someone at the restuarant asking for someone with a last name other than mine... she wanted to clarify a reservation that one of the earlier shift employees made... I find out from the person that the guy who originally took down my reservation wrote it on a napkin, Not only did he get my last name wrong (come on, it's 4 letters long!), but he got the wrong day & time! It was a waste of a phone call and my time!\r Anyways, we wanted to get the chocolate souffle that everyone's been raving about, so I order it right when we sit down (cuz I guess it takes a while to prepare)... the waitress totally forgot about it, and tried to make it up with chocolate mousse cake on the house... not a bad recovery attempt, but I still wanted souffle!\r also, it took a while to get my water glass refilled... in such a warm environment, I was kind of thirsty...\r Pros: flavor of food Cons: service, price, portions more

Terrible customer service 7/27/2007

The service here was horrible. I eat out pretty often, and this had to be the worst service I have ever received. My spouse and I were seated promptly, however, no waiter or waitress ever came to our table. They went to the tables all around us, and skipped us entirely. The place wasn't that crowded. When we asked about our server, someone finally came over. He took the order, but didn't write anything down. We had to ask for water, bread, etc. After waiting for about 30 to 40 minutes or so, the waiter who took our order came back and asked us what we had ordered again. As it turns out, he never put in our order after all of that time. We were so upset that we complained, but everyone just shrugged their shoulders and said Sorry, and we promptly left. How can any place operate with such terrible customer service? Cons: Bad Service more

WORST SERVICE/FOOD IN LA! 7/8/2007

Let me preface this review with the fact that I eat lunch and dinner at restaurants frequently as my job requires a fair amount of entertaining-- I would say I visit 4-5 restaurants weekly. As an individual who loves good food and great service... Le Marmiton was the biggest disappointment this year. I can forgive the roasted beet salad, having no 'roasted beets' but rather beets obviously straight from the can. I can forgive the bumbling, clumsy waiter with a fake french accent that came and went. I can forgive the fact that our cocktails arrive 20-30 minutes after we ordered them, even after reminding the waiter. What I CANNOT forgive is the single most important rule to any and every dining establishment- My companion and I did not eat our dinners at the same time. His steak au poivre was well-well done (medium requested) , and when telling our waiter, he actually asked ""well, do you want another one then?"" My lamb shank arrived, and 20 minutes later so did his steak. Horrible. Absolutely atrocious. The actual flavors of the lamb shank and steak were not bad, however the horrible service and sub-par food we did eat, makes it necessary that I warn other dining patrons to avoid this place at all costs. If you want good food, go to Cafe Del Rey, it's right around the corner, or stop into CPK, both are far superior to Le Marmiton. \r Pros: Location (perhaps I'm biased as I live down the street) Cons: Horrible Service, Sub-par food, crowded parking lots more

Very pleasant European Bistro Atmosphere with Excellent Chief! 5/2/2007

Having travelled extensively and lived abroad for a number of years, we have a preference for quality foods and service. We keep coming back to Le Marmiton as there is no other Bistro in the MdR area to equal it. The hand made chocolate truffles at Christmas are a real treat. more

Save on Airfare and Hotel to Paris 4/29/2007

Le Marmiton has got to be - hands down - the best bistro fare around. If you need to satisfy a craving for first-rate French food without breaking the bank, served up in a very attractive yet unpretentious environment, Le Marmiton is definitely destination dining. All the classic fare is here: they do the brioche and croissant thing at breakfast. Lunch can be soup (onion or fish or du jour), salads, sandwiches, pates, or brick oven Alsatian pizzas (move over Wolfgang Puck). Dinner means country French choices to satisfy every palate. Along with traditional choices such as Coq au Vin, Beef Bourguignon, Steak au Poivre, Bouillabaisse, Mussels, etc., etc., there are always a handful of fantastic specials added on the menu to take advantage of the season. Save room for dessert as they are all top-notch. Love the tiramisu, creme brulee, etc., but make sure at least one of you remembers to order up a chocolate souffle (20 minutes to prepare). We've been to the restaurant more than half a dozen times since it opened its doors, and we can honestly say that every dish we've ordered has been prepared to perfection every time. How often can you say that about a place nowadays? The wine list covers all the necessary bases, excellent choices and very fair prices. The atmosphere is fun, convivial and relatively informal, while at the same time a safe bet for a nice, romantic dinner. Check it out once, and not only will you be back, you'll be spreading the word. Pros: See Our Review more

GREAT FOOD WITH A FABULOUS STAFF. 3/25/2007

I came one evening with my co -worker and ordered the grilled seafood salad. it was so delicious and tasty, prepared just the way iI like it. My co- worker ordered the scargot and the french onion soup and loved it. Furthermore, the service in one word: OUTSTANDING. My waiter understood my order and delivered it the way i asked.- THANKS!!!!!!!! Pros: EVERYTHING Cons: NOTHING more

Competent French Bistro, Casual and great service 1/1/2007

We went here on last minutes notice on New Years eve,, just a great place for a relaxing meal with great service on what is otherwise a big party night. I ordered the Coq Au Vin, very good, with a great mix of side vegetables, my wife had the beef bougenion which was nice but we both enjoyed the chicken more. For Appetizers we had the French Onion soup, very good with a nice cheese, and for dessert a nice chocolate souffle and some decent coffee. Very competent, short of spectacular. A little pricey but they are in a high rent district, there is easy parking, and the service was very attentive, warm and friendly. We will definatly go back just for the fond memory of this pleasent suprise on New Years Eve. more

Just for Lunch. 8/20/2006

Disappointing for a nice dinner. Steak, $28, came w/ french fries and greens (greens being a small vinaigrette salad) was ordered Medium Rare, but was cooked Medium, a definite deal breaker for some people. The Masion salad, $11; greens, a few candied pecans and very, very little Roquefort cheese. The Mussels were good, around $22, came w/ french fries. Dinner for 2 including tax & 18% tip was $98. Our waiter was absent most of the time but the busboy was excellent. Overall nothing special and for the price especially disappointing. Pros: Ambience, Parking more

Great French Bistro Food- Wonderful Staff- Great Atmosphere- Great Patio- 7/9/2006

Love this restaurant. I just moved to the Marina. I am part French, know French food, go to Paris a couple of times per year, believe me this place is wonderful. The escargots are excellent- the ""moules"" muscles also- the Charcuterie platter to die for (cold-cuts) The kobe burger, pizza's etc. Just an all around great place for fun- special simple dinners- and as a neighborhood restaurant as worth a trip from the west-side. Pros: everything is great more

Great Brunch Spot at the Marina! 6/22/2006

My hubby, 2 dogs and myself love to have Sunday brunch out and this place was such a pleasure! The staff were friendly not only to us, but also to our 2 dogs (which is what really matters!). They had the best smoked salmon benedict I have ever tried! Everything is fresh and healthy and tasty. Make sure to have the dessert tray brought out for the dessert du jour. Prices are very reasonable, too! We'll definitely be repeat customers! more
